Surprises? Geeee.... everyone loves sur-prizes!
While I wholly understand Wooly's sentiment - think back on the announcements made at Gen '07 - I really do feel this year's announcements will be "music to our ears".
And dammit... I still have no idea if I'm going. I'm sorry if it ruins everyone else's trip, but I'm praying for rain (my son - the roofer - will only get off those days if a storm is coming in). Both my back-up-plans fell apart (my own fault, really), so I only have this one avenue left to me. |

Erik, Garen... You're both making in painfully hard for me to regret my decision not to attend this year.
And I mean that in a good way. These hints are really something to savour... |

This is a GEN-CON I'd love to be at. You know, with all the surprises and everything ...
But I know I'll be there in spirit. Maybe I can be patched in over that internet thingy. They can do that these days, can't they Erik, Brian and Brian?

The Keynote address, streaming or recorded would be awesome for those of us unable to attend. |

Hey Jeremy, want to go with me?
You and I (if you are who I think you are) were supposed to 'enjoy' each others company there once before, IIRC.
And yeah, a streaming/podcast thingy would be awesome. I really fear I will not make it (which means the rest of you will have bright, sunny whether, so I guess I will be satisfied with that).
I will MOST DEFINITELY "be there in spirit", though, in more ways then one. I hope everyone has a great time - I think this will be one to remember (in a GOOD way). |

I think Jimmy Hoffa may be hiding in there as well.
Along with Amelia Earhart and the Lindburgh baby.
And now why I am picturing parting Ed's beard, and find a world hidden in there? (You know, unicorns, rainbows, satyrs and giant mushrooms, etc). His beard could be FR's version of the wardrobe in Narnia.

My bald head has been used for various scrying purposes by my wife and children...they have yet to find my lost hair however; so I put little stock in its abilities.
I do have a magical ability with electronic/electrical devices...they tend to die if handled by me too much. This includes cars unfortunately...even our energy saving lightbulbs have a much shorter lifespan because of me. I had a doctor at the University of Virginia tell me I have a nearly redundant nervous system (I have far more nerves in my body...especially my heart...than anyone he had ever met before). Because of it, I have a great deal of "juice" flowing in me.
Back to GenCon, I officially won't be there...however, I will have my wife attempt to scry the Forgotten Realms event! I opted instead to go with the wife and kids to Washington DC this 11th to see museums and such... |

Much as I love Neil Gaiman's book Crazy Hair, Ed's beard is even more fantastical and rife with mysteries & dangers unplumbed. Still, it's amusing to read the book with Ed in mind.

Do the Potomac cruise with just the wife. Its very cool, relaxing, and educational. One of the best 'up the river' mini-tours I've ever done.
Did I mention it comes with a mimosa brunch?
Nothing like a moving buffet with history being recited in the background. I was in heaven. |

Many of us hosts of this event will be at the keynote as well, or at least following it online in some fashion. If that dictates that the Candlekeep Seminar will start a little late, that may happen. Bear with us!

So what you are saying is that WotC purposely scheduled another event after hearing about the CK event, just to ruin it?
I kid, I KID!!!

So the Keynote is like a meta-magic feat, and we are in for a spell-binding evening of enchantment?
Okay... even I gagged on that one. Tiime to 'curb my enthusiasm'.
And seriously, that was meant as a total joke - I was just pointing out how 'naysayers' can ALWAYS spin things to the negative (I was like that, but my mommy hid all my Mr.Hyde formula...)
If anything, I think the CK meet-up is like the after-party of a good show (I've only been to one of those, and it was memorable, and this should be something on a whole 'nother level). Everyone else might be talking about 'the show' itself for weeks, but the after-party will give you a lifetime of great memories.
{sigh} To be 17 again..... |
