Poll Question:
Which of the Forgotten Realms logos do you prefer to have grace the cover and spine of your Realms novels?

I have always loved the original Forgotten Realms logo. It always reminded me of something that was excavated at some archeological site. |

Me too. I prefer to old one. The new one isn't bad, but it's not quite as good. |
Doggedly converting 3e back to what D&D should be... Sigh... And now 4e as well. |

I like the newer one. I felt the old one was too blocky and I'd hope they put the logo on the main cover, preferrably the same size as the D&D one. |

Though I like the old logo, the newer logo combined with the 'leather bound' look appeals more to me. Though what matters more is the content |

The old one's too big, and, well, too old. The new one's better. Though as pointed out by many, it should also be printed on the cover. |

I'm not entirely convinced by either of them, but prefer the original because the newer version's use of an overused off-the-rack font makes it look low-rent. But I prefer it at the discreet size as on the late 1990s and 2000s books, where it's not bigger than the author's name and the title. |

The few maps I did that included a map-key used the old logo, so you can guess where my preferences lie.
However, I wouldn't mind at all seeing a bit of an update to the old one (not a different one - just spruce it up a bit). Kinda like what Mike Shley did with the maps - you can still tell its The Realms, because the newer textures are based on the old ones, but it just 'pops' a bit more. With today's much better computer-graphic technology, they can make it look like its rising off the page.
So a new old one, if that makes any sense.
EDIT: I was going to make a new thread for this, but since its a related subject (the artwork used), I figured I'd just mention that for those of you on Facebook, I've created a 'Support The Forgotten Realms' PicBadge (a 'button' attached to your profile pic). I hope to generate some buzz with it for the 5e FR relaunch. If I still had my old comp and PS I would done something a little better, but it is what it is. Enjoy. |

I suspect the new logos will look something like this: HASBRO™ Forgotten Realms |

Exactly my thoughts.
Although I fear Ayrik may be closer to the mark for what we actually get... but hopefully that does not extend to the content. |
Playing in the Realms since the Old Grey Box (1987)... and *still* having fun with material published before 2008, despite the NDA'd lore.

I am glad to see an almost even balance between the old logo and new. I think this kind of even playing field is needed for the Realms to continue and develop for the years to come. Is it weird that i am probably considered an "Old" Realms fan (since i am prone to 2E) at 33 years of age? |

With the newer books, i believe the new Realms logo is still on the spine even if it's missing from the cover. My copy of Swordmage is like that. |

I like the 3E logo. The original logo will do also... |

I have no problem with the new (3e) logo - I liked the leather-bound look as well. So long as we actually get an FR logo, I will go with the consensus.
I just can't help getting nostalgic when I see the old one.
What I don't want is to see them reprint everything exactly the same, with the original logos. On the other hand, that might be a clever way to allow folks to know what era the product is related to.
Perhaps 3 logos? 'Classic' (Ed/1e/2e), Modern (3e/OGL/lost century), and 'Dark Future' (4e+). Although that appeals to me on some level, it would also help keep the fanbase separate, which is the opposite of what they want. Once again, I do not envy them - lots of tough choices need to be made. |

Agreed on all three counts.

I like this idea... but I also share your concerns. And honestly, I'd put the lost century in with the 4E stuff, simply because I'm still firmly behind the idea of the split timeline at 1385DR. Anyway, that's a whole other kettle of fish in a barrel to fry... and that mixing of metaphors is a pretty accurate description of the job ahead of the designers. I don't envy them either. |

It wasn't a question.
Also, why isn't there a fourth option - "I don't care"? This poll is biased. |

The "I don't care" option isn't listed because if someone sees this thread and doesn't care about it, they will logically ignore it and move on.
How is a poll about the Forgotten Realms logos biased? Biased against what? This poll is definitely biased against Ravenloft, Greyhawk, Dark Sun, Dragonlance, Ebberon, and Pathfinder logos. |
