I remember some kids pulling out the red box set during recess in 3rd grade, musta been back in '83, and me askin them what's that. Thus it began. Funny I can't remember the ex's birthday but I can remember that.

If I waited till I knew what I was doing, I'd never get anything done.

Hell, I can't even remember my parents' birthday, but I do remember how I got into roleplaying, and when...

I only have the D&D Rules companion, but I also remember a time when you needed to be a fighter of a certain level to become a paladin

Waves Zimmer frame around excitedly.

Though you did get various combat manoeuvres as you went up in level, and had a chance to improve your fighting skills with particular weapons through training - Expert to Grandmaster with extra attacks and AC bonuses.

12th level. And only if you were Lawful. Neutral characters got to be Knights, and I've forgotten what Chaotics became.

These, in the day when heaven was falling,
The hour when earth's foundations fled,
Followed their mercenary calling
And took their wages and are dead.

Their shoulders held the sky suspended;
They stood, and earth's foundations stay;
What God abandoned, these defended,
And saved the sum of things for pay.

I read my first D&D book in 1982 (the MM) when I was 8 years old but I only played the choose-your-own-adventure novels as my mother was "protecting" me from the currupting effects of Dungeons and Dragons , ....when I was 10 (1984) I bought my first D&D product but my mother forced me to return it, therefore I played D&D at friend's houses until I was 13 (1987) when my AD&D game came "out of the closet" and my mother gave up on trying to protect me ...

But since I was reading at an university level in grade 9, had been buying the Dragonlance novels for years and she had boycotted the local library she read read the DL Chronicles and then Darkwalker on Moonshea when it was published and soon realized that the whole “corruption” thing was foolish and manipulative

I played with the same group, with the same character (or character spun-off by my main character) from the age of 10 to 19 until we all left home and started our “mature” lives

P.S. since I own 99.9% of the Forgotten Realms novels, my mother has read all of them (something I can't claim )

*ahem* You know, I started playing D&D when I was five? My parents definitly had some screwy ideas on how to raise a kid.

Hmm, if the game consisted mainly of problemsolving and roleplaying that is actually a good thing, but if every solution is found by the tip of a sword I wouldn't advise placing any sharp object near ya

Actually, I was scared silly of all those evil looking monsters...I'm not sure I even kept the sword...Hm. It's really no wonder I never got past 1st level, come to think of it.

I currently read my Forgotten Realms novels to my son to get him to sleep at night, and he's only 5 and a half Months old.

He seems to really like Streams of Silver I don't know why maybe it's the silly voices I give everyone.

But again like EvilKnight my wife gets bothered by this, though not as much as when I started reading Stephen King to him

What else are you to do at 3.30AM.

Could he be classed as the youngest.

When I was in that age my mom always read Wilhelm Busch to me... ok, admittedly in Max & Moritz the main characters get ground into flour and baked into pretzels. No wonder I dislike pretzels...

My first experience with Dungeons and dragons were the cartoons on television :-)
My first experience with Dungeons and dragons (rpg) was about 10 years ago. I was 16 years old and a clasmate told me about the game. He made a small session for me (one DM and 1 player) and we played a premate adventure from the "introduction to Advanced Dungeons&Dragons"- boxed set. It didn't took long before I started my own party with 2 friends and 2 cousins of me. During that period you can talk about serious gaming. We fought monsters in every room without thinking why the beast was in that place. (A dragon in a room without space to escape, or food). We played a few months and then we stopped and played occasionally.

Later when I was 20 years old I got a new group of AD&D players who had a lot of experience. I was the youngest member of the group and the oldest was about 10 years older than me. I learned a lot of those guys and we played for about 5 years (in theory we still play but we don't find the time to come together anymore). I really enjoyed playing with them.

But during that period I had a feeling that was growning in my stomach :), A feeling to become game master myself. I found a second group who played D&D 3'rd edition. First I was a player there so I could learn the new rules system and now I'm the game master there :).

I think I must have been 10 or 11 years old...can't remember for sure.

I just count from when the Grey Box was released. ;)

J. Grenemyer

09/20/2008: Tiger Army at the Catalyst in Santa Cruz. You wouldn’t believe how many females rode it out in the pit. Santa Cruz women are all of them beautiful. Now I know to add tough to that description.
6/27/2008: WALL-E is about the best damn movie Pixar has ever made. It had my heart racing and had me rooting for the good guy.
9/9/2006: Dave Mathews Band was off the hook at the Shoreline Amphitheater.

Never, ever read the game books too literally, or make such assumptions that what is omitted cannot be. Bad DM form, that.

And no matter how compelling a picture string theory paints, if it does not accurately describe our universe, it will be no more relevant than an elaborate game of Dungeons and Dragons. --paragraph 1, chapter 9, The Elegant Universe by Brian Greene

My first actual D&D game was in 1979 (I still have the miniature I painted for it - a heritage "Amazon archer", though I had a medieval army using chainmail rules in 1973, with the jousting rules, and we played some with the magic addendum. Still gaming, quite a few years later. Currently playing an urban ranger in a city campaign.

As to age, I would have been 27 when I played in 1979 (can't lift cane to wave it menacingly).
