it was there the other morning, but when I went back yesterday, it was not, hmmm...

I was thinking I was crazy for a moment, but I am absolutely positive it was there. it was specifically for short fiction.

-If it's of any relevance, the short story written by Rosemary Jones was recently released on e-format, revealing the origins of the back-and-forth banter by the Siegebreakers, concerning exploding pigs, from the Crypt of Moaning Diamonds, as I am sure most are aware of. I don't know if it is supposed to be indicative of anything, but...

Self-Editted because it was a bit over-the-top.

It was.

Flip answer aside, it remains a DDI discussion. Since all Dragon content is part of the DDI, discussing such content -- whether proposed or actual -- is valid.

When someone subscribes to DDI, do they get access to all the previous subscriber only content or only new subscriber content?

the question can probably be answered in the forum at WOTC better, but from what I have read up on over there, I believe it is only from the month you subscribe forward.

I recall that as well, Scererar. The line of thought is that they want you to subscribe now and forever and if you don't subscribe, you'll miss out on stuff and will never be able to see it at all.

Sorry, IMO, it reminds me of the kids that would bring the toys and threaten to take them home if you didn't play the way they wanted.

I actually DO know everything. I just have a very poor index of my knowledge.

You can access backward in time as well.

You can gain access back in time to all facets of DDI?

Well...that is a little better on our end; but will that have a bad effect on them for folks that pop in every few months for only a month?

Are you certain of this? It's not that I'm doubting you, but I seem to remember that WotC specifically said that backward access wasn't going to happen unless you paid for the previous months' downloads separately. Have WotC changed their stance or have I just got it wrong?

I believe it's a temporary thing:

Magazine Back Issues

We’ve changed our short-term policy with respect to full issue compilations. Until we launch our long-term solution (which will give you access to exactly those magazine PDFs from the months when you were a subscriber), we’re just going to make all issues available to all subscribers. In other words, we’re not going to pull down the October issues when the November compilations go up at the end of this month.

You can see the complete article here.

Interesting that you bring this up - about a year ago there was supposedly an 'open call' for Dragon authors, when the magazine went all-digital. I had high hopes of seeing some new talent showcased... and then all the articles that did appear were by WotC designers.

So I thought to myself... everyone (including me) was sending lists of their wonderful article ideas off to wotC, and then the designers themselves were writing all the articles.

hmmmm... that just didn't sit right with me AT ALL.

Now, in retrospect I realize that it was just plain BS - all of the articles that have appeared have either been 4e or 4e previews - NONE of which could have been written by fans. In order to write for them, you need to have a copy of their '4eFR manifesto' (or whatever they are calling their uber-secret plans).

Think about it... they ask US to send them article ideas, knowing full well we couldn't write 4e articles (have no knowledge of the setting at all back then). The ONLY articles fans could have written at the time they asked for ideas were 3e articles - which they weren't accepting.

You do the math.

If WotC actually took other people's ideas and wrote them up as articles, without getting the submitters permission to do so, it would be illegal as hell.

Nothing beats the gray box!

I am defeated by the fine print, sort of.

Regardless of whether you can access (Dragon) back issues or not, a user should always be able to get their hands on the rules content from those back issues through the D&D Compendium search feature.

Just key in the magazine name and issue number in the search field.

Simple maths, how many registered people on the forums... excluding pornbots and people never posting.. 5000 ?
Active posters/readers? (once a month) ~1000 ?

And if 100 of those actives decided they want the digital d&d, that would be 100*$5.
$500 does not pay for very much personel.

Waitaminit.. zimbs speak english thanks to the british empire, some can likely even read and write (20-25%?), offering some $50/month ( 200 trillion zimbabwe dollars) to 10 such to write about magic and monsters..? :D
Guess the penissnatching witch will soon be canon.. lol

I am currently considering it, since the Character Builder is quite useful if you play 4E (my DM has it and we all got to make our chars on his account - but I don't want to be a Leech and plus I need some of the Dragon articles)

If you like/ playing with 4E, a DDI subscription is a good thing in my opinion. lot's of good stuff and the character generator is quite useful. I especially am digging the dragon and dungeon magazines. many like the compendium, but I for one have not found much use for it yet, that I can't get from my PDF's.

Now the next step is for me to figure a way to get everything compatible for an Ereader I will be getting soon.

What? That's pathetic!

I was thinking of signing-up the other day just to get access to Ed Greenwood's "Returned Abeir" article. But that looks unlikely now.

So just how are new members supposed to get access to the older material?
