*possible spoilers*

I'm currently reading this book and on about chapter twelve and having a fair amount of trouble knowing if I should know some of these characters from past FR books and source materials. Forgotten realms Wiki hasn't been much help. I was hoping some of the more knowledgeable scribes could help assemble a list or some such of characters and their pasts and appearances.

I'm all good with:

Alusair
Manshoon
Seven Sisters

But feel free to give any information on anyone.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Yes, as far I can remember. Unless of course my fellow scribes know you personally and believe one of the characters is you (in a different name).

"I" don't appear in Elminster Must Die, with the obvious exception of the dedication.

"I" do, however, sort of appear in the second Knights of Myth Drannor novel, Swords of Dragonfire, as a War Wizard. Alternatively, "I" might not be Garen Thal at all, but young and blustering Garen Truesilver from The Sword Never Sleeps. [Personally, I think the latter might be a better fit, being an 'off-screen' agent who observes something afoot, than a noble dashing about with sword drawn, but alas, I wrote neither.]

I will say that while there are some characters, titles, and events that appear in Elminster Must Die that could be traced to things I've created, none of these characters are "mine" or "me." Perhaps, if one day I get to write that Cormyr novel that's been scratching in the back of my brain to get out, they will be, but not today, I fear.

I find it more than a bit "Cockroach-ish" that a certain scribe had poisoned yet another scroll not intended for their continued flogging of Ed and Manshoon. (seen too many to count)

The OP said they wanted to know more about the characters from the book...also said Manshoon was one they were good with knowledge of. They are looking in hope " some of the more knowledgeable scribes could help assemble a list or some such of characters and their pasts and appearances."

No need for cockroaching another scroll thank you.

Perhaps the Mods need a can of that "roach" spray someone is so effusive about.

Well, I can't say my love for him will never change. If an author handles him perfectly or changes him to something (not a real cockroach, please) I may find interesting, I might put his name on my list of favorite characters. Meantime, he's on my list of...ah, you know that already.

Of course, as expected. Perhaps the words dedicated to Manshoon should have been given to her instead. I really love Manshoon, don't I?!

jornan, Targrael and the Nine, although they have been mentioned more than once before in published Realmslore, are supposed to be mysterious to the reader. Stay tuned to this series for more about them in future books, Ed has hinted.

Im assuming hey are referencing the dedication, where Ed says something along the lines of "this should have been yours" ......

Which I'm guessing by Brians love of and massive knowledge of Cormyr, he would have been a good choice to write a cormyr-spanning epic!

I think Targrael might have been interesting had she been given more 'screen time.'

Bah! There's more call for immortalising The Sage in the Realmslore. Krash has already laid out Sage Operth in his as-close-to-official-lore here at Candlekeep. Now it just needs to make it's way into an official source.

come to mind.

The Nine are an adventuring band. As I recall, only three of the Nine have ever been properly detailed. Laeral, and then another two that were referenced in her entry in the Seven Sisters tome, which are Thanadar and Arnthiir Windrivv. The first time they're mentioned in lore, IIRC, was in the Great Grey Box, then in FR5 The Savage Frontier.

For Lady Targrael, see Ed's The Sword Never Sleeps.

As for Garen Thal... well, I'll let either Brian Cortijo or the Ol' Bearded One himself handle that.

It would be easier, I think, if you told us with whom you are unfamiliar, as I know that I certainly can't, and the same can probably said for many other scribes, remember exactly who "pops up" from the past.
