| Thanks Kentinal. I've not seen that particular timeline. It's different from Schend's in CEoE and puts bits and pieces of new information in the mix. I'll study the two side by side and post my thoughts later. |

Here are two objections to the very root of the issue:

2) ...while Lolth was silent? And what happened in her previous sixteen "retreats"? Hey, it's not like she flaunts the image of an ambush predator, or anything like that?..

Interesting concepts, everyone. Normally I would have more to say on this topic, but it's been a rough day and my mind is elsewhere, so I can't contribute much right now. I'll probably come up with something later.
I will say however that, as others have pointed out, the Ilythiiri had already started turning to dark powers, and while I agree not all of them should have been punished, the saddest thing about war is that innocents suffer too, whether it is a war between gods, mortals, or both. The Crown Wars were a dark and foolish time in elven history. I love elves, but I fully acknowledge they can be prideful and have done some less than savory things. I also think the Vyshaan and the guilty gold elf houses responsible for the mayhem should have been more severely punished, but anyway...
The "curse of the drow" gets tricky when you bring in Eilistraee's followers. Yet, again as others have pointed out, she made her choice to leave Arvandor--against her father's wishes--to be a balance for a drow. Ideally of course, only the Ilythiir who were guilty would have been punished, but instead there was a big "oops" in the ritual. However, while this "oops" likely hadn't been foreseen by the Seldarine, it is clear even the gods have their limits, and perhaps Corellon overstep his limits, and instead of being allowed to "fix" the mistake, he, and by extension, his followers, have to live with it, just as we mortals have to live with our mistakes. Oh, yes, the dark elves were cursed and cast into the Underdark, but they have become an awesome and powerful race, and are one of the surface elves' most hated enemies. Sheverash experienced that first hand in the Dark Court Slaughter. So, the Seldarine and the elves are now living with the "mistake" of the high ritual.
I don't think Vhaeraun poses the same threat as Lolth. He was a young upstart easily persuaded by mommy. Now, I love Vhaeraun, and I don't think he is nearly as malicious as Lolth. His followers want to reclaim their realm in the surface, and this would certainly pose a threat to the elves, but, as shown in LP (make whatever arguments you want about that series), Eilistraeens and Vhaeraunites are capable of working together. Brother and sister may be different in their alignments, but I don't think their goals are that different--they just have different ways of going about it.

| I just want to see what Corellon thinks about Eilistraee and Vhaeraun and their drow followers (not the changed ones), now that the twins are back. Seeing that they just had to give us something like LP, at least try to get something useful out of it. |
