Within 100ft of the exact center of the Plane of the Outlands, even chemical reactions are halted, and even the gods cannot go further. What happens if you were to be within 0ft, RIGHT ON TOP of the exact middle? I imagine you’d simply stop existing or something. If the gods cannot go there, can anyone or anything besides Ao get an individual there?

Magic, psionics and divine beings cannot go there. I heard of no similar prohibitions against mortals. Smack dab in the middle is the Spire. On top of the Spire is Sigil, the centerpiece of the Planescape setting. |

No entity could stand at the exact center of the Outlands.
First, there's a big spire in the way. Effectively a column of nearly-indestructible stone. It could argued that stone, molecules, etc have physical properties which require chemistry and physics to work. By a small-minded clueless Prime, anyhow. Some things in the planes simply exist because they do, doesn't matter if anyone understands.
Second, no chemistry, no magic, etc. Living processes couldn't be sustained. Unliving or undead processes (which are powered by magic or planar connections) couldn't be sustained. Even gods are forced to halt their approach (though few would dare approach the epicenter anyhow).
Highest-level magics/etc fail first, then lower and lower magics as distance continues to decrease. This logically suggests that if you could reach the exact center then no magic, nature, technology, or even life of of any kind could exist. Maybe think of it as a singularity, the middle of a black hole, a pure quantum-condensate, absolute zero, lightspeed, whatever - a theoretical limit full of infinities which can be approached (to a limit) but can never actually be reached. At least it's been there for half of eternity and nobody's ever done it.
Maybe overgods meditate or party on the summit. Nobody knows.
They say Sigil sits at the top of the infinitely-tall spire, as if that makes any sense. Nobody knows. |
