Greetings, fellow scribes.

Is there any official lore concerning noble inheritance in Cormyr? I'm espeacilly eager to know if only first born males are fit for heir apparent in the various noble families. Also, when a noblewoman marries a nobleman does she looses her family name and adopt her husband's? Their children would carry the family name from which parent?

To quote THO in the Qs for Ed thread, 30/6/13
quote:
There are noble families in the Realms (in both Waterdeep and Cormyr) where the eldest born becomes heir regardless of gender, and there have even been nobility that descends through the female line, NOT the male line, but I'm not sure if any of those families have survived past the early 1300s DR.

And to quote Garen Thal (Brian Cortijo) following that up in the same thread:
quote:
Indeed, 'tis true. Alazne Inthré (daughter of Laspeera Naerinth and Aundable Inthré) was her mother's only child, but inherited her title as Lady Eveningspire based on a grant that guaranteed that the title would descend along the female line only.
I'm not certain that any other published families credit inheritance along these lines, however.

Hope this helps.

And Garen Thal has covered the subject of noble inheritance in the Forest Kingdom often enough in his own Questions scroll elsewhere at Candlekeep. I'd suggest a thorough read, for there are simply too many replies to quote here.
