Hi,

Do you have ideas of effects for the Cantrip spell?... I would like to add some flavors to my game using the NPC mage tagging along my PC party.

Well Dragon Magazine #221 may have what you are looking for and maybe Complete Wizards.

I hope Candlekeep continues to be the friendly forum of fellow Realms-lovers that it has always been, as we all go through this together. If you don’t want to move to the “new” Realms, that doesn’t mean there’s anything wrong with either you or the “old” Realms. Goodness knows Candlekeep, and the hearts of its scribes, are both big enough to accommodate both. If we want them to be.

Enough for now. The Realms lives! I have spoken! Ale and light wines half price, served by a smiling Storm Silverhand fetchingly clad in thigh-high boots and naught else! Ahem . .

love to all,

I can not second this recommendation readily enough! I still say that the way the article "The Little Wish" presented cantrips was the best way cantrips have been handled in any edition of the game.

I played a fighter-mage with the cantrips proficiency, and I was armed with photocopies of all the cantrips from the 1E Unearthed Arcana -- and the use of cantrips became that character's signature. I had so much fun with that!

I liked that article enough that I took the time to transcribe it to a Word doc, back in the day.

Per RAW / clarifications, allows to produce minor effects (cantrips) for the spell duration, the caster concentrates when doing so.
Cantrips were published in Dragon #59 - #61, #100, Unearthed Arcana, FR Campaign Set ("The Grey Box") and Polyhedron #28.

Also, cantrips as such were introduced in Unearthed Arcana (where a magic user could cast 2 cantrip/round, but not cantrip+spell), there were rules for "everyone can cast cantras" in Netheril sub-setting and proficiency-based cantrip use in Dragon #221.

Yeah, but 3e dropped to cantrips non-hack&slash spells from 1 and 2 levels, made cantrips grow, and added a few ranged damage ones. This has little to do with what cantrips were before.

The Cantrips in Unearthed Arcana were amazing and I recall all the fun we had with them. I've still got my copy and it makes me feel old.

One of the things we do now is that the 3E Prestigidation spell encompasses all of the minor cantrips from the old Unearthed Arcana sourcebook.

Clean, Flamefinger, Polish, Untie, etc.

We also incorporated the Pathfinder rule for Wizards at 4th level regarding them. Once a 0 Level spell is memorised it can be cast repeatedly all day.

It certainly made my players wizard much more wizardly :)

I'm pretty sure there also used to be a Netbook (remember those?) of Cantrips, and various other Netbooks has other cantrips. I think I collected all the raw information in a Word document somewhere...

The AD&D 1E Unearthed Arcana describes many "0-level" cantrips, and a few more Realms-specific cantrips are interspersed throughout AD&D 1E FR0 through FR5 products. They translate very well into AD&D 2E rules, all you really have to do is assign each one a wizard school for specialty purposes. The AD&D 2E Player's Option: Spells & Magic (alongside the other Player's Option books) describe "2.5E" cantrip rules in a more expansive manner. You won't find anything specific to 2E outside of random articles from Dungeon and Dragon magazines, fan-made netbooks, etc - so if you want cantrips in your 2E game you'll basically have to adapt them (or trust someone else's adaptation) from non-2E sources.

It's not mine, but there is a product called "The Book of Cantrips" at the DM's Guild.

You might also be interested in Realms products which describe Halruaa or ancient Netheril. Many "common" folk in these magic-rich realms know and cast cantras. Also look into the priestly equivalent of cantrips, known as orisons.

I have to 2nd Wooly on this one - its by far the best cantrip system ever made. There are also earlier Dragon Mags with fully described cantrips... if memory serves there were some in the pages from the mages articles.
