I've been musing on some 3.5e base classes and prestige classes, and wondering how to fit them into pathfinder. Thus far, I've got these ideas:

First, a blanket fix: all wizard powers scale off Int, not Cha.

The dread necromancer becomes a wizard archetype, a super-specialist who gives up wizard bonus feats but gets access to all necromancy spells. Power over Undead becomes Channel Energy with the Command Undead feat attached. Charnel Touch replaces grave touch, with enervating and scaborous touch unlocking at higher levels, contingent upon the wizard having prepared contagion (or a necromantic disease spell) and enervation (or a necromantic level drain spell) prepared.

Negative energy burst is made redundant by Channel energy. Lich body and fortification replace lifesight's per 4 level progression. The original dreadmaster familiar was weird, so dreadmasters can summon living creatures thematically associated with death, the afterlife, immortality or undeath as familiars, or any familiar they summon gets the skeletal template.

The beguiler is a magus archetype.

Dragon shaman is an oracle archetype, or cleric.

Dreadmaster and the various single-class cleric prestige classes devoted to specific deities become cleric archetypes.

I think spellfire channeler/wielder could be fixed if converted into a kineticist archetype.

I think you might be short-changing the Beguiler because they originally had access to 9th level spells and by going the Magus route, they drop to having only 6th AND their BAB is still only 3/4.

Yeah, I meant the Duskblade. Beguiler would be a wizard archetype.

Actually, I don't see the dread necro and beguiler as wizard archetypes. They feel more like a type of sorcerer who is limited to certain "types" of magic, rather than being able to pick from just anything. However, unlike the sorcerer, they have a much larger spell list known at any given time. However, that being said, I'd probably port them over as a regular class and just modify the hit points and skills to match pathfinder.

The dread necromancer started off as a wizard kit. It was a weird one though, conflating Necromancy with fiendish magic, then dropping in a baatezu lord who became a god of necromancy. The Book of Necromancers took place in FR, which made the lack of mention of Myrkul, Orcus or Velsharoon bizarre.

...Actually, I think the super-specialist classes work as arcanist archetypes.

yeah, but the dread necromancer for 3.5 isn't anything like the wizard kit for 2e really. It wears armor. It had a martial weapon. It was dependent not on studiously studying (i.e. using Int), but rather their strength of character/will (i.e. using Cha). They don't studiously memorize their spells every day, but rather learn the spells of their "type" and have them always memorized such that they can use whatever they need (Like a sorcerer, she can cast any spell she knows without preparing it ahead of time.).

Rather than trying to turn them into an archetype of wizard or arcanist, they can stand on their own as their own class. Not saying though that a conversion might not be better done with some changes to the class abilities in some way. For instance, I'd fully expand their spell by making "advanced learning" come at every level rather than every 4 levels (its just adding extra necromantic spells known, not extra spell slots). I'd also make them more likely to use that martial weapon by making their BAB match that of a priest, to make up for the fact that their spellcasting is so limited. I can see them fighting the rank behind their undead soldiers with a reach weapon while occasionally hurling in a spell.

Now, I agree that some of the other "classes" that were put out in 3.5 are less well formed, and might be better ported over as archetypes of another class

The Oracle and Gunslinger I wouldn't bring over from Pathfinder since Oracles would be Faithless and Gun powder is still very rare. But I did change the Lantanese/Gnome Artificer into a Base Class instead of a Prestige Class since it just made more sense.

The following are all the Prestige Classes I switched over:

  • AGLARONDAN GRIFFONRIDER

  • ANCIENT MASTER

  • ARACHNOMANCER

  • ARCANE DEVOTEE

  • BEHOLDER MAGE

  • COGNITION THIEF

  • COILED CABALIST

  • COURT HERALD

  • CRINTI SHADOW MARAUDER

  • CULTIST OF THE SHATTERED PEAK

  • DIVINE CHAMPION

  • DIVINE DISCIPLE

  • DIVINE SEEKER

  • DURTHAN

  • ELVEN HIGH MAGE

  • EVERESKAN TOMB GUARDIAN

  • FANG OF LOLTH

  • GIANT-KILLER

  • GRAY HAND ENFORCER

  • GREAT RIFT DEEP DEFENDER

  • HALRUAAN ELDER

  • HALRUAAN MAGEHOUND

  • HAND OF THE ADAMA

  • HARPER AGENT

  • HARPER PARAGON

  • HATHRAN

  • IMASKARI VENGEANCE TAKER

  • INCANTATRIX

  • JORDAIN VIZIER

  • JUSTICE OF WEALD AND WOE

  • KNIGHT OF THE BLUE MOON

  • KNIGHT OF THE FLYING HUNT

  • KNIGHT OF THE WEAVE

  • KNIGHT-ERRANT OF SILVERYMOON

  • LUIREN MARCHWARDEN

  • MAQUAR CRUSADER

  • MASTER OF VIPERS

  • MERCHANT PRINCE

  • MOONSEA SKYSENTINEL

  • MOONSTAR AGENT

  • NAGA OVERLORD

  • NAR DEMONBINDER

  • OLIN GISIR

  • ORC WARLORD

  • PRIME UNDERDARK GUIDE

  • PURPLE DRAGON KNIGHT

  • RAUMATHARI BATTLEMAGE

  • RED WIZARD

  • RUNECASTER

  • RUNESCARRED BERSERKER

  • SERPENT SLAYER

  • SHAARYAN HUNTER

  • SHADE HUNTER

  • SHADOW ADEPT

  • SHADOW THIEF OF AMN

  • SHADOWCRAFTER

  • SLIME LORD

  • SPELLDANCER

  • SPELLFIRE CHANNELER

  • SPELLGUARD OF SILVERYMOON

  • SPUR LORD

  • TALON OF TIAMAT

  • TELFLAMMAR SHADOWLORD

  • THAYAN GLADIATOR

  • THAYAN SLAVER

  • THRALL OF ELTAB

  • TRIADIC KNIGHT

  • WAR WIZARD OF CORMYR

  • WEARER OF PURPLE

  • YATHCHOL WEBRIDER

  • ZHENTARIM SKYMAGE

  • ZHENTARIM SPY

The Thayan Knight Became a Cavalier Order instead of a class. As for Dread Necromancers and Dragon Shamen, I didn't bring them over because they weren't really specific to Forgotten Realms (besides the Eytan's great article on transferring them to the Realms).

I actually DO know everything. I just have a very poor index of my knowledge.
