Just out of curiosity, is there any sort of canon compendium, or internet source, where well known tales, poems and/or songs are collected?

For example, songs that would be recognizable by region, such as "Wind by the Fireside."

Here's a few links that may help, from right here at Candlekeep.

I don't know of anything by region, though. Maybe someone else can refine this for you.

Bossy the Gnome Man (sung to the tune of Frost the Snowman)

Bossy the gnome man, was a cruel and nasty soul,
With a corn cob pipe and a juttin' nose, and two eyes just dark as coal.

Bossy the gnome man, is a simulacrum, they say.
He was born of snow, but the children know he came to life one day.

There must have been some magic in that old flop hat they found,

For when they placed it on his head, he began to swing around!

Oh, Bossy, the gnome man, was alive as he could be;
and the children say he could laugh and slay,
just the same as you and me.

Thumpety thump, thump, thumpety thump, thump,
look at Bossy go.

Thumpety thump, thump, thumpety thump, thump,
oh, the blood did flow.

Bossy the Gnome Man, knew the sun was hot that day,
so he said, "Let's run, and we'll have some fun now, before I melt away."

Down to the village, with a pool stick in his hand,
Running here and there, all around the square,
sayin', "Gonna beat you if I can."

He chased them down the streets of town, right to the magic shop;

and only paused a moment, when the owner hollered, "Stop!"

For Bossy, the Gnome Man, had to hurry on his way,
But he waved goodbye, sayin' "Don't you cry, or I'll crack your head some day."

Alavairthae, may your skill prevail

An in-game update to Baldur's Gate version of the classic: Wind by the Fireside

So as you work in the sun and open air
Look into my eyes and see what is there
My desire
Watching over you.

As you walk in the Gate's bustling streets
Listen past the paupers, con men and cheats
My voice
Comes to you.

And when you're alone, wandering the Wide
Know only kind faces, they do not hide
A shining star
Is what they call you.

In toil, or sadness or cloudy grey day
Hear the words yourself, that today I say
My thoughts
Are with you.

You are not average
You are not invisible
The Gate cannot hide you
The common people cannot ignore you
I will come for you
Faerün is richer with you
And the gods will smile
But oh, my love, guard yourself well—
All this may not happen for a long, long while.
