So today I brought my Van der Graaf generator to seal up my unit on static electricity.

While we were playing around with it, a student asked whether it was Van Der Graaf or Vangerdahast generator.

Apparently for the last two periods I had Vangerdahast generator written on the board...

I am amused!

I had a teacher bring one of those into class... I was hitting every electricity-related pun I could, until even the teacher got tired of it!

Funny.
Vangerdehast was known to visit Earth - maybe he has had tryst with Van de Graaff's Momma? The double letters do make it sound kinda Realmsish.

So Wooly, would you say your teacher was less then ecstatic?

He certainly could have! Maybe he showed Ms. Van Der Graaf a few shocking grasps.

It's a prerequisite for programmers, unfortunately. Or, at least, it was "back in the day."

I believe the phrase you want is that this is a thunderstorm of bad jokes.

Eldacar: No, I think Althen had it right. Of course, one could always find a more current metaphor, and not put up so much resistance...

Playing in the Realms since the Old Grey Box (1987)... and *still* having fun with material published before 2008, despite the NDA'd lore.

If it's comparable in power with non-magical abilities, it's not magic.

As long as it's not Visa, MasterCard, or AmEx... that's a charge I can do without.

I think we're finally starting to drain the battery here, folks... although I think I've just found the path of least resistance. Watt do you think, fellow scribes?

There's a reason I was trying to stay out of this thread, and it's to do with my complete lack of resistance to punnery. But I think this one might be the joule of the lot... although I fear that some (by no means all) scribes whose first language isn't English might feel rather insulated from the proceedings.

You people are lucky you don't live in the Realms, Talos would personally destroy each of you for such extended electricity-themed punnery.

Which reminds me. Writing "Vangerdahast generator" once is okay. When you start to calibrate them in kilo-Volhms, it's time to worry...

Well done, Ayrik! Sometimes you just have to charge right in...

Edit: ... and it just occurred to me that Talos is the only deity who expects resistance to his portfolio. Still, a deity of lightning should be well-grounded in the behaviour of mortals...
