I wanted to throw this out here for people to comment on. It's what I came up with to get a PC with a history in Baldur's Gate all the way to being the nameless prisoner the group found in a temple of loviatar in melvaunt last game.

---

As opposed to the Order of the Sword, I’m going to put forward that they would most likely have been cavaliers belonging to the Flaming Fist. Having been a squire, they could probably find you on the rolls of the Flaming Fist if someone looked close enough, but you were also tangent enough, that you weren’t “missed” after Mylor’s death.
So, this covers easily your first two levels of rogue, and easily 3-4 levels of cavalier (traveling with the knights and all).
So, I need to build backwards from where I have you coming into the adventure. The cities of Melvaunt, Phlan, New Verdigris, and Hulburg were all sucked out of Faerun with everyone in them. You were in Melvaunt, at the time –being held prisoner and tortured by Priests of Loviatar. Your release will be the result of part of the group’s actions last game.

The church of Loviatar does not actually bear you ill-will, and you’ve surmised as much. The torture, being part of their religion, is being performed on behalf of Ignatius of the church of Beshaba (your truest foes, as a follower of Tymora).
You had ended up in Melvaunt through a series of random happenstances. It began when your eagle got his wing clipped by a rather ferocious peryton. As such, you had improvised a way to carry him in one of your saddlebags.
You were on patrol with several other horsemen, when your horse threw a shoe. You were able to find a farmer who would be able to re-shoe him, but it was raining heavily, and you both decided it best to wait until morning.
So, by early afternoon you were on your way to catch up with your patrol, when you found the road had become blocked by a mudslide. You took a side-trail, which led you to a stone bridge, overlooking some castle ruins that were below in a ravine.

However, time and weather had eroded the bridge more than you realized, and the combined weight of you and your horse send all of you tumbling down by free fall into the ravine. However, instead of hitting the jagged rocks below, you splashed into icy cold water.

Praising the goddess that you were not burdened by the heavy armor of most knights, you were able to swim to shore, most of your belongings intact. It did not take long, however, to establish that you were nowhere near the ruins you had seen … and the wide expanse of water was in no way related to the ravine you had been plummeting towards.
You were soon able to find a road, and you chose to head west by the flip of a coin. On the way, you came upon a pitched battle between several dark cloaked men and what eventually turned out to be pilgrims of Tymora. Your presence turned the tide of the battle and only three of the dark cloaks got away.

Five of the nine pilgrims had also been slain. The priest amongst them was unable to provide further healing than he had done during the fight. He soon succumbed to his wounds, but was able to speak with you briefly before he passed. He entrusted you with the Periapt of the Sullen Sea which bears the ancient symbol of Tyche – the red outline of a star.
His hope was that you would aid the pilgrims in arriving in Melvaunt and that you would press on eventually, to Arabel. He urged you to follow the goddess’ whims, though, and that her route to Arabel may not be a direct one.

<Did you bury the dead, or press on, right away?>

In Melvaunt, you were able to see the shrine to Tymora and worship there. The remaining pilgrims dispersed into the city and you have not seen them since. You began seeking a ship to take you to Cormyr (where you would be able to travel by land to Arabel). It was near the docks that you spotted one of the dark cloaks from before. With his hood down, you were able to see that his eyes are covered by golden lenses. He also seemed to notice you.

You tried to make your way safely from the area, but ended up cornered on the steps of a large building. You fought bravely (though – you were still injured and quite exhausted), and one blade stroke slipped past your defenses and cut through your armor near your collarbone. By the luck of the movements, the periapt had bounced around beneath your armor and the strike severed the old leather cord holding it around your neck. Through the rest of the fight, it jostled down your shirt and you felt it fall out and hit the steps.

Then an accidental kick from one of your opponents, sent it off the steps and into a bush – unnoticed by your assailants. You were forced to the ground soon after. You’ve since been questioned and beaten multiple times, but you’ve picked up more information than you’ve given.

<They’ve gotten, at least, your name – but what else have you told them?>

You’ve determined that the gold lenses on the one dark cloak’s eyes are cut in the same star like pattern as the symbol on your periapt. The man’s name is Ignatius and he is a priest of Beshaba. He seems to be after the periapt and there are possibly items other than the periapt that are related to it.
