As far as I've seen, there are no new video/computer games actually in the works as of late. Sure, there's that Neverwinter MMORPG coming out, but I'm done with MMORPGs ever since I quit World of Warcraft after about 4 years of that.

I loved the Baldur's Gate games, but I can only take so much of that. Icewind Dale 1 I never got into, but I got into Icewind Dale 2. However, my folks changed computer systems due to viruses and evolutions in computing, so now IWD2 always crashes on me on Windows XP (my current computer system), and I can't seem to find an official (at the least) means of fixing such a problem.

Neverwinter Nights 1 & 2, I've played somewhat of. NWN2 is more interesting to me, but like Baldur's Gate 1 & 2, I can only take so much.

I never got into Demon Stone or the Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance games yet, but I don't know if I will, especially Demon Stone.

The thing is, is there REALLY going to be any hope for the likes of me, who'd love to have interesting NPC party members, an engaging story, and attractive gameplay. Before anyone mentions such, I've played Dragon Age Origins; I'm only interested in news of a potential FORGOTTEN REALMS single-player game, not really about spiritual successors at the moment. So, is there any news I'd appreciate concerning single-player Realms games?

As a side note, here are the platforms I have.
1) A high-end Windows XP PC.
2) A Playstation 2.
3) A Playstation 3.
4) A Wii.
5) A Gameboy Advance.
6) An NES
7) A Nintendo 64.
8) An SNES.

Well, Demon Stone was enjoyable for me. And I STILL play Dark Alliance 2 for hours at a time on occasion. I've hear there is another Neverwinter game coming out, but I don't know if it's the same one you mentioned, though I've heard of that one too.

Hmmmmm... maybe I should really look into those, then.

Okay, so there are rumors, but nothing solid, eh? Sounds like the usual development cycle for anything.

I second Alystra's recommendation of dark alliance 2. 1 is fun as well.

When they both came out my daughter and I would play for endless hours at a time.

Well, at least according to one article from Gamespot, "Neverwinter" is supposed to be an MMORPG. (http://www.gamespot.com/pc/rpg/neverwinter/news.html?sid=6273953&om_act=convert&om_clk=newsfeatures&tag=newsfeatures%3Btitle%3B1). Wonderful.

I wish I could sue the pants off of Atari for this and win. I swear there are more people out there than just me with a taste like mine that isn't getting catered to.

In an interview with one of the game designers it's stated that the Neverwinter game is NOT an MMORPG. This is Co-Op play on servers but you can play the game solo. Think along the lines of Diablo, Diablo II, etc... where you can enter the main server and either play with people you find in town and take them into the areas where the monsters are. I don't know if it'll work like Guild Wars where every thing outside the local area is you "own" version (ie. no one can come in and screw things up or influence monsters like in WoW) but Solo game play is offered in this game.

As for Demon Stone, highly enjoyable and they have Picard (er...Patrick Steward) as the voice of Blackstaff! And you get to fight as Drizzt for a time in 1 mission (my favorite mission honestly, his moves are pretty bad-a$$). And the plot is enjoyable.

I also had Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance but to be honest, I cheated to get to the last level, defeated the main bad guy (who I had NO idea why I was fighting) just to unlock Drizzt character and play the game through him. So I did beat the game legit with Drizzt (much harder since you don't get very special weapons and the mode was on difficult).

I've never had the opportunity to play BG: Dark Alliance 2 because that game is in such high demand it's almost impossible to buy it in stores and e-bay/amazon want like $70.00+ for the game new. I don't know if it's worth that much honestly (though to play Artemis.....?)

But there is a game that you might not have tried for the original X-Box called Dungeons & Dragons: Heroes which was alot of fun too. You can play as a human fighter, dwarf cleric, elven wizard, or hafling rogue and the game play is much like Baldur's Gate games for x-box and it's back-wards compatable with 360.

Artemis is a hidden Character in BG Dark Alliance 2.

Beat the game on Extreme with Drizzle.

My favorite is the Sun Elf Necromancer/Shadow Adept.

I always cheated on that game...

In the first BG Dark Alliance, I would play the Archer. He is a bad ass with that bow. Dwarf Fighter was blah. The Elven Sorc I ran around with no clothes or Armour on.

I don't like MMORPGs. I loved Baldurs Gate and NWN. I too would love to see another single player Forgotten Realms PC game. Unfortunately, it looks like my gaming days are over.

LOL!! Now that you mention it, it DOES!! I LOVED playing the Drizzy mission in Demon Stone, even though you can't change his equipment. Same goes for using him in DA. Getting through the Gauntlet to unlock him in that game was a PAIN, though. Fifteen rooms of bada$$ monsters in under fifteen mins. without saving or dying?! WTF??!!!

Needless to say, it was worth it, though. And I LOVED having Stewart as Khelban in Demon Stone- a wonderful casting. I liked the guy they used for Drizzt's voice too- the only game he actually talks in, AFAIK (I don't count the gay comments he makes in DA while fighting... It's just not him.)

Alright, well that pretty much convinces me concerning Demon Stone & the Dark Alliance games. Now, about Icewind Dale II.

Has anyone managed to play this game on Windows XP without it crashing randomly? I remember asking this on Gamebanshee.com's forums the only reply I had was if I downloaded a/the patch. I don't remember finding a patch, and if I didn, it didn't help. Anyone able to comment on that?

Dunno on that one. I play NWN on XP, and it works okay, considering how much junk I got on my PC, lol! Having trouble with the toolset, but otherwise okay except for a slight lag problem. I would imagine ID would be about the same- but it might depend on your PC model/year or whatever...

If you want to play Icewind Dale take a look at the infinity engine games modding website out there somewhere, they should have links to all official and unofficial patches as well as any mods that have been developed for it. I forget the website name since I haven't played ID2 in over a year after a move broke the play disk for it... Still, when I did play it was on a windows XP computer and I don't remember it crashing randomly for any reason.

Also, for the new Neverwinter Nights game, are there any articles out there stating whether the game will require an internet connection to play? From what I remember, Diablo 1 and 2 allowed you to play over Battle.net(or whatever it was called) but also allowed the single player game to be played when you had no internet connection. Will Neverwinter be like that or will it be more like Guild Wars or some Steam games, where you have to connect to the internet to get the game to play at all but can choose to play on your own once you are online?

Galuf, I am currently playing it on XP. No problems at all, runs perfect and I didn't even download any patches. Maybe it makes a difference that I bought the IWD series on DVD?
Happened with several other games before that they would not run on XP until some time later I bought them as budget releases (Green Pepper etc) where they apparently made changes to enable them on XP and stated the XP compatibility explicitly on the cover.

'Ello (& well met!)

Very first post here so I hope this is the right place for it?!

Galuf: I have to agree with you, even though there are some interesting looking games out there I've been reluctant to get into playing MMORPG's because I already know enough ways to fritter my time away and not accomplish much without going down that route, so I much prefer the single player / Co-op video or PC games.

I'm just about to start playing the Baldur's Gate PC games again and Baldur's Gate Dark Alliance I & II really are the most played games in our house. (Even with three consoles and two PC's) I know the main issues people have with the games are the linear nature of the stories and the fact that there really isn't a great deal of strategy involved, but for sheer fun re-playability value I'm not sure they can be beaten. (I've played other similar games set in different worlds and not enjoyed them so much, even though the gameplay is the same). For the first game the Archer or the Sorceress are the most fun to play. In the second I particularly enjoy playing Vhaidra the Drow Elf. The hand to hand combat makes an interesting change. Allessia (Cleric of Helm) stomps all over everything though. I read somewhere in her stats that she's not supposed to be able to equip bows or great weapons but no one told the game designers that as she can use everything. I've never played the game through with Ysuran but I think he could well be the most challenging character to play given his lack of power in melee fighting, so he's probably most likely to give you a truer strategic style of play? There are plenty of cheats about for the game and I have used them once or twice but the gameplay & progression is such that you don't really need them.

I have to admit I'm really disappointed that it doesn't look like the BG:DA trilogy will ever be finished, given...
SPOILER

the huge cliffhanger at the end of the second game. I have a question re that BTW. Does anyone who has played the game know what god / monster we are likely looking at? I'm not hugely up on my realms knowledge so the end quite a shock! I also wondered if the final game might be linked with the original Baldur's Gate games.

/SPOILER

If you think it's too spoilery to discuss here please PM me with your thoughts.

Anyway, after all that rambling, if you do pick the games up I hope you enjoy them.

Cheers, Lil

See, that's the exact reason I disliked BA:DA and the sequel (which I've sold on amazon). It didn't feel like an RPG to me, being more of a hack 'n' slash than anything else.

A fair point, that. The Dark Alliance games are essentially a dungeon crawl rather than in depth RPG. It's possible that's down to the memory / data storage limitations of the consoles at the time as much as anything else. Still good fun though, with a nice pace of progression whereby you don't suddenly hit the gaming 'wall' where a previously fun game becomes hellishly frustrating because of some crazy jump in difficulty of the opponents.

Saying that too, I never really got into NWN either. To me, the pinnacle of D&D RPG video games were the Baldur's Gate series on the PC and Icewind Dale II.

I would absolutely love to one day see a video game RPG of their calibre.
