Return of Shade time - Year of Wild Magic, as stated by Ashe and capnvan. Also remember that it is also stated that mechanics wise, it was always like that (retconned so that even before 1372 characters operate the same way - unlike the 1E to 2E change and the 3E to 4E change where the mechanics change with the world.
