Was the alchemist class ever developed for 2E? I've run across a few alchemists in the Realms, but was is developed as a PC class for 2E. If yes, where can I find this information? Many thanks.

Alchemist NPC class

"New D&D Character Class: The Alchemist, A" -- Jon Pickens 2(28)
"NPCs For Hire: ...And One Who Seeks the Perfect Mix" -- Roger & Georgia Moore 45(11)
"Recipe For the Alchemist, A" -- Len Lakofka 49(56)
How adaptable any of them are to AD&D2 I don't know.
There was an Alchemist class in the AD&D supplement Sages & Specialists, if I recall correctly.

I've had a look at this supplement. In fact, the class is listed there as "Apothecary", but it is very similar to what I understand an Alchemist to be. The apothecary class is a sort of medieval chemist or pharmacist with magical properties. The apothecary specializes in alteration magic. This could work well for my purposes. Thanks again, Jamallo.

It does exist as a Specialist Wizard class in the Player's Option, Spells & Magic book and the Player's Option Skills & Powers book. The whole work of the class was very scientific and interesting when compared to some later 3.x work.
It was under the Thaumatugical Specialists on Page 20 In Spells & Magic, and under the same heading in Skills & Powers on page 138 in the "New Schools of Magic" Chapter.

There were also a few variant Alchemist prestige classes in my own Alchemy & Herbalism through Bastion Press back in 01.

Yes, I wrote it for d20/3E but 95% of the material is applicable across all editions for D&D, I think; the toughest thing was warping the early 3E rules on Craft and Profession to get Alchemy and Herbalism anywhere near equal in usage. The catalog of herbs, the setup of the schools, etc. should all be portable to whatever ediiton or game you're using.
