The only part I did like about this story was the ending, and not least because it was the ending. To me, the author tried way too hard to make her imagery and metaphors work, the plot was contrived and her characters one-dimensional. Constantly referring to the generals by their long and cumbersome titles, and naming the antagonist “The Last Paladin of Illmater” was both confusing and downright misleading. I think Bruce highlighted some of the very few instances where the story was mildly interesting, even if the metaphors and imagery used in those examples were overdone, too modern or simply trite. This is one author who should go back to editing, which I presume she is much better at.
