Posted - 19 Sep 2019 : 00:16:57 I know this topic is only slightly related to the Realms, but I'd like to have your help for an item I intend to create for my Realmsian campaign. So, there it goes:
Does anybody knows how to call this headpiece? |

I thought it looked pretty awesome on Drizz't (I believe that was him wearing it).
Best regards,

I'm with Wrigley, in non-Japanese terms this is a skullcap. They came in many tyoes and sizes, some lesther, some metal.
They might look good on barbarians. But they look epic on wizards.

Yeah, it is funny how such pieces of armor came about. It is bizarre!

I would call it a skullcap. It is not exact but it sounds fine and make a point.
But I agree that the film version is more "useless piece of armor".

In southern lands, it’s called. Honch’o as in a “ head honcho”.

Thanks. Also note that I'm not a sage. So I could be wrong and there might actually be a name for that piece within FR lore. I'm sure it's mentioned somewhere. |

Posted - 19 Sep 2019 : 00:38:55 When that piece is ornamental and then stuck to a helmet (in same location), it's called a "forehead plate" and "hachi-gane" (forehead protector) for Japanese samurai armor. The closest that I've found is the "hachi-gane" as just the plate and a cloth strap (see wiki pic below), however, there's usually several other layers over it and I don't think it's ever just worn by itself.

Arg, the forums can't handle URLs with parenthesis. For more pics, be sure to include the "Hachi-gane_(hitai-ate)" to the URL |
