Hi again, Scribes.

I was wondering if anyone had any speculation regarding Elminster Aumar and the Nether Scrolls.

In addition to speculation, does anyone have any canon support for Elminster studying the Nether Scrolls?

Fascinating - thanks for asking!

This query was answered by Ed Greenwood himself in the scroll linked below.

He's also a sneaky little scamp who's not above somehow justifying reasons why he should "borrow" dangerous items like Nether Scrolls from time to time as needed ... in fact, he's not above justifying the absolute lack of needing to justify anything if he's clever enough to get away with it and nobody else notices.

-There is no canon information anywhere stating it implicitly, but, as Arik mentioned, Elminster hung around places where the Nether Scrolls, or those with access to the Nether Scrolls existed. So, in theory, he might have had access to them at points in the past.

Well Mystra didn't need to create scrolls for him, she could have just implanted all he needed to know into his mind. There couldn't have been something in the scrolls Mystra didn't know.

Probably a good question to ask Ed.

I'd suspect that Elminster might've had some access to the Golden Grove (made from Nether Scrolls) at which elven High Mages study. He may also have certain arrangements with, say, the Morueme clan of blue dragons who own/guard some Nether Scrolls. In fact, Mystra might've "cheated" and created new copies of some scrolls just for Elminster to enjoy, much as she has apparently done for Larloch. I'm just speculating.

Have never heard of him reading the scrolls... but perhaps!
