Anyone know any more information on this book? It seems like a sourcebook for the Adventurer's League.

Cover of the book: https://ibb.co/hO3u3n

"Show some respect!" the draegloth thundered. "You adress High Priestess Quenthel Baenre, Mistress of Arach-Tinilith, Mistress of the Academy, Mistress of Tier Breche, First Sister of House Baenre of Menzoberranzan... you insolent dog!"

I saw something about his intention to put it on the DM's Guild.

From Facebook:

quote:
Ed Greenwood authored the supplement below, updating the lore for the Border Kingdoms, for the new AL content that will be released at Gamehole Con. I know Alan Patrick is meeting with WotC to see if they can publish it on the Dungeon Masters Guild.

I asked THO about it on the current Ask Ed Scroll...

to be nurtured like a precious flower, for it is the most precious
thing we have. Wherefore guard the word written and heed
words unwritten and set them down ere they fade . . . Learn

will lead you to the greatest art of all: understanding."

From what I understand yes.

I just hope that it covers more than the series of WotC articles did... Those articles were great, but they abruptly kicked that series to the curb. IIRC, there were one or two articles Ed had written and submitted that WotC had but never did anything with.

Brimstone, I can tell you this much: Ed updated his Border Kingdoms write-ups to current Realms time (the 1490s DR) and completed them, A-Z, covering the entire BK in an overview that the GameholeCon adventure designers formatted into a handsome gazetteer that I hope will be available for sale at the DM's Guild eventually (proceeds to GameholeCon?)...
Ed crammed it full of adventure hooks, subplots, and the like.

And I believe Alex Kammer, the master gamer who runs GameholeCon, collaborated with Ed on an uberplot to underpin the GameholeCon Adventurers League adventures at this year's con, and for several years into the future. Alex came up to Canada a month or so back to spend a few days at Ed's house cooking up things.

(Ed's also at work on other things in the Realms, including his own annual Mirt story-and-lore plus companion adventure. He held a TEGG contest, and the winner, Clinton Cronk, has designed an Ormpur adventure that should go up at the Guild eventually. I'm hoping Ed will follow through on his plans to write "Volo mini-guides" for all the locales Mirt visits, too...)

Another reply tomorrow, I hope (have ferried everything to Ed for lore replies)...

Love to all,
THO

That's one of the things I hate, series of articles stopping clearly way before their time. In my Realms notes there are more than a couple of series names with the references to the magazines numbers and then "why does it stop?!? [expletives]"

Long ago, before my banning from the WotC forums, I was participating in a discussion on web features. The general consensus was "they did X, Y, and Z, and they were all awesome, but then they dropped them and we'd like them back!"

That was when I commented that maybe WotC could do a poll or something and simply ask people what they wanted... And a WotC staffer came in and commented that they had no need to do that; they had their own ways of determining what we liked and wanted.

That one post made me lose a hell of a lot of respect for WotC.

It is updated for the current timeline of the Realms and while some of the information is repeated, much is not. It also details several BK places that Ed never got to go to in the original article series and then later on the WotC website series.

It's out!

The Border Kingdoms: A Forgotten Realms Campaign Supplement

quote:
Welcome to the Border Kingdoms!

According to the sage Meriadas of Westgate: “The Border Kingdoms are the most favored destination for adventurers who want to proudly and boldly conquer a realm or establish their own new kingdom. Lords, counts, dukes, kings and emperors rise, proclaim themselves, and are swept away with the speed and regularity of waves crashing upon a shore.”

This fall Gamehole Con will be releasing original adventures set in the Border Kingdoms for the Adventurers League organized play program. To get the excitement going, we are sharing our campaign bible with you. It contains over 100 pages of lore about the Border Kingdoms and was written by Ed Greenwood, creator of the Forgotten Realms!

This product includes:

  • Over 100 pages of lore about the Border Kingdoms in PDF format

  • A high resolution map of the Border Kingdoms in PDF format

This was obviously many moons ago, before I was active here. I'd signed up, here, but I wasn't active until WotC banned me and I had just two options: sign up again under a different name and not acknowledge that my prior login had been banned, or call it off and just never post there again. I chose the latter.

At the time I was referring to, though, when the WotC person said they didn't need to ask us what we wanted -- at that time, the only questionable thing they'd done was ban discussions of novels in a rather heavy-handed fashion.

Even now, I'll question a lot of WotC's decisions, but I don't go for the all-out "WotC is evil!" or "Everything WotC touches turns to crap!" routine that some others do. I try to give them the benefit of the doubt.

I immediately downloaded it, and popped a copy onto my thumb drive so I could look at it at work... Sadly, though this is a slow work day, I've got other, more pressing priorities.

I can't wait to dive in to this over the weekend. Now the question is, what do I do with all of these Polyhedron Magazines.

I photocopied all the articles and PDF-ed them long ago. Much easier to access that way.

I got my PDF as well, it's a little more adult then other stuff in 5e, it mentions escorts, festhalls, brothels, and so on, which no other product has in 5e to my knowledge, so your characters know where to go to get laid in the Border Kingdoms, which really amuses me more then it should.

I look forward to seeing Gameholecons adventurers.

I finished reading the book yesterday. My only complaints are that I would have liked to have seen more maps and a larger one for the region, and that it could have used one more pass from an editor -- there were several typos and such that jumped out at me.
