Way of Kings by Sanderson, the Barrow by Mark Smylie, Red Country by Abercrombie, now just finishing half a king by Abercrombie. Debating on starting the wheel of time next and start alternating one of those and the sequels for some others I've just read. Would do that for the foreseeable future.

Been taking a break from reading for a while to focus more time on shaping/fleshing out my D&D homebrew world. But I have managed to find time to read The Sirens of Titan by Kurt Vonnegut, Jr.

An ebook for me this week, and a fascinating take on archaeology from the Cold War period in Europe with An Archaeology of the Iron Curtain. Great stuff for those who, like myself, have a passion for archaeology and curious historical artifacts, and seeing it focused on an otherwise more contemporary setting.

Just finished Night Masks this afternoon. I enjoyed it more than In Sylvan Shadows, but slightly less than Canticle.

Salvatore's fight scenes are really getting annoying. In my opinion, they are among the worst described battle scenes that I've read. They seem more for himself, as I find myself always trying to picture in my head what the hell is happening. I don't have this problem of the same consistency with any other author.

So of course, I'm off to read Gauntlgrym next. It's more a case of me needing to continue the Drizzt series after so long, than me really wanting to read the book. I've read a few novels since The Ghost King and frankly, I was enjoying the break from Drizzt and Salvatore. But I figure I need to continue with the Drizzt series before too long.

"Surrender now, or we will slay you!" the leader of the creatures called, a bit louder and more forcefully.
"A moment, please, my friend," Zasian said, motioning to the dwarf for patience. "We are discussing your terms."

"Ye heading off with Invo . . . Inno . . . that durned elf?"

I'm in the third book of the series now, Twilight Watch. I'm really enjoying these books.

Area 51 is proving to be quite readable; it's a fascinating look at how Area 51 has been used for a lot of secret purposes, and also a history of aerial recon, specifically focusing on how and why the U2 and later A-12/SR-71. Right now, I'm in the part about the shooting down of Gary Powers's U2 and the political ramifications of that.

I do have an issue with the author's explanation for Roswell, though. It's supposed to have come from an inside source, but it comes across as a poor attempt at disinformation.

That Area 51 sounds like an interesting read. I don't know much about the history, and frankly, I struggle to read anything that's not FR.
But I am a big believer in extra-terrestrials, so a read like that sparks some interest.

It's more focused on the actual history of the place. Other than a couple bits about Roswell, it's been mostly focused on how aerial reconnaissance became a thing, how this led to the building of the U2 and needing a place to operate it from, and then the same for the SR-71's forerunner, the A-12. And of course a focus on the development of these aircraft.

At least, thus far.

I, too, firmly believe we are not alone in the universe, and that was a part of my interest in the book -- but that's not its focus. Luckily, I also have at least a passing interest in topics like aviation and various forms of espionage, and the book does focus on those quite well.

Finished with my archaeology read.

Now it's on to some fiction... and DRAGONLANCE, which I've been away from for far too long.

I'm starting The Players of Gilean this morn -- an anthology set featuring bards, troubadours, and wandering minstrels. In other words... my kind of fantasy book.

I'm in the middle of "Anthologie de la Poèsie Française" by the ex-French president Georges Pompidou.
It has some Middle-age religious stuff that I really don't dig. But then there is the soap-opera-like greek tragedies of the Renaissance, Phaedra falling in love with his step-son Hippolytus, thus cheating on her husband Theseus. 'Stuff just got real!

I can't recall whether these books have come up in discussion before, but have any of my fellow scribes read the .... of the Dwarves series by Markus Heitz?

Ok I finished Proven Guilty by Jim Butcher. Another great book in the Dresden Files.

Not sure what to read next. I am leaning towards the Realms of Shadow anthology but may change my mind.

I'm up to New Watch, the last book of the Night Watch series.

I may re-read The Rook, next. I really like that one -- kind of an X-Files meets the X-Men thing, with the really interesting angle of an amnesiac character who knew beforehand she was going to get amnesia, and wrote a series of letters to herself with enough info in them to keep people from realizing she'd lost her memory.

Finished Floodgate, starting Wizardwar. Loving this trilogy so far. I'm debating where to read next. I got the Letters of J.R.R. Tolkien for Christmas. May read that.

Finished Infinity Blade: Awakening by Brandon Sanderson and read the sequel Infinity Blade: Redemption. Enjoyed both, but felt the ending of the second could have been a little better.

Tonight I will start White Night by Jim Butcher (boook #9 in the very excellent Dresden Files).

I finished New Watch last night, and grabbed Ready Player One. It's become one of my favorite books since I first read it a few years ago, and I've been wanting to read it again, recently.

I think I'll hit The Rook after that, another more recent fave, and then Year Zero after that.

I have just finished the Conselors & Kings trilogy. It was a great read. Nice to see Halruaa described in a novel. Now reading "Master of Chains". I hope for some new 5e novels, but while they are not issued, I read the old ones. Unfortunately, there are not many left to read. :/

Decided to reverse the order; I'm about halfway thru Year Zero.

Between having to spend some time waiting for my car to be fixed, and taking it easy because I wasn't feeling well, I burned right through Year Zero, and now I'm a good chunk of the way into The Rook -- which, I just found out, has a sequel coming out this year.

Speaking of sequels, my friend Beth Cato has a sequel coming out in a few months. The book is The Clockwork Crown, and it's the sequel to her debut novel, The Clockwork Dagger. That is one book I will be eagerly laying hands on!
