The dark cloaked man hiding in the shadows in front of you says :Welcome to Candle keep’s cellar stranger, I hear that you seek knowledge of the portals also know as links. Here are the tome, when you are done with it, put it back on the shelf behind you. You turn around and see the dusty bookshelf and when you turn your head the man in front of you is gone.

no software at all. I don't consider it that helpful, IMO. So just books and books and books and books.........

I never found my PCs in a situation where I wanted to use a 'generic generator', so it was time consuming but all done by my brain with the aid of a few dice rolls (sometimes modified) to add some element of randomness.

I like using PC Profiler for character sheets though.

I don't think PC Profiler exists anymore. There's an effort to revive it somewhere but I'm just using a version which I got from a friend

Thanks for the loads of links, Victor. I'm still an old fashioned DM and use Pen & Paper 2.0, but some of those sources look pretty...

Some people say we gamers have no lives....I think we have too many.

I have tried a couple, the last being the dm genie and player genie. I like to stick to old fashioned, pen and paper. However, having some of my stuff planned out on my laptop is convienient. so, office type programs and adobe mostly

Most of the programs you list seem to be websites
I use pen and paper mostly but sometimes these websites are helpful:

I love how the roll of years here is alphabetical and chronological.
http://www.geocities.com/TimesSquare/Castle/2566/rollofyears.rtf

this name generator lets you come up with phonetic traditions
http://rinkworks.com/namegen/

I dont rly use this but its a drow translator:
http://www.grey-company.org/Maerdyn/resources/translator/index.cgi?text=i+will+destroy+you.&lang=Drow

"You came here to be a martyr in a great big bang of glory... instead you will die with a whimper."
::moussaoui tries to interrupt::
"You will never get a chance to speak again and that's an appropriate ending."

That's the file that's still hidden on the Wizards site... We also have copies of it here, various formats for the Roll of Years. The Roll of Years is also included in both the Forgotten Realms Calendar Tool, and in Brian R. James's wonderful A Grand History of the Realms.

It's a program from Code Monkey Publishing. It's a pretty sweet program, though it's not free.

I'm working on an educational program for my players so they will know more about the Realms.

First a few lectures, then some required reading, and finally: written tests!

After some strange posts in here, I changed the name of the Thread

The thread was formerly known as : To all DM : What kind of programs do you use?

The new name for the tread is : Links related to AD&D and forgotten realms.

Mace - are you serious about this? Not that I have not thought about ways to make my players know more about the great place they travel but a lecture system with a graded test?

However - let me know of your final draft. I am interested as to what you ask and how deap you dig into the realms lore.

I clicked on this link to see if it was what I thought it was (a dungeon creating utility originally included on a CD that came for free with an issue of Dragon), and it turned out to be a dead link.
