If you could get only one, which would it be and why?

When hinges creak in doorless chambers and strange and frightening sounds echo through the halls, whenever candlelights flicker where the air is deathly still, that is the time when ghosts are present, practicing their terror with ghoulish delight.

Complete Warrior. I initially didn't like Tome of Battle much, but I've warmed to it a bit, but it takes some work to get it to make sense in an existing campaign, and it has a lot more new rules to get used to to keep everything straight.

Complete Warrior's feats and even the new "core" classes all basically work the way that things have since the begining of 3.5, but Tome of Battle introduced a lot of new rules.

Can you answer if you already have one of them?

Complete Warrior. It quite readily drops into an existing campaign. It has feats that are geared towards characters who aren't warriors as well. As Knight said, Tome of Battle opens up a vast realm of possibilities. One thing that needs to be looked at is whether the tome of battle options opens up abilities that would have taken several feats to achieve (I don't believe so as yet, but I must admit to a cursory overview of Tome of Battle).

Complete Warrior. Is a "fighter" complement to the players handbooks. The Tome of Battle don´t complement, it creates a new concept, that needs to be worked "alone".

Let me chime in with the 'Complete Warrior' folks. Great, great book that builds on rules and concepts that already exist. Very easy to insert into a 3.5 Ed Realms campaign, and it even has updates of the Thayan Knight (from Lords of Darkness) and the Purple Dragon Knight.

As a scribe who has both tomes, I have so far, preferred complete warrior. Tome of battle seems almost too much of a newer concept and more difficault to drop into an existing campaign

One of my players just buy the Tome of Battle, and I take a look at the book. To be direct to the point, I like of the Crusader, only. It´s an interesting class, that can easily be incorporated in some faiths of the Realms (Torm, the Red Knight, Tyr, etc.).

But, of course, Complete Warrior is a better book in all points:

-the 3 new base classes are interesting and can make a home in "my" Realms (samurais escorting noble caravans in Thesk, swashbucklers in Sembia, Waterdeep and other places, and half-elven hexblades manipulated by the Eldret Veluuthra (sp?) giving trouble to the good guys);

- the feats and PrCs are interesting (not all), and can be easily introduced in mine campaigns, with (relative) little work;
- the magic is simple and eficient (and the Courage domain enter in my Realms, as a domains of Torm);

- chapter four spill some interesting concepts about warfare, military organizations, and other things. The epic topics are very good, as the new weapons.

So, in one I have a very good book. In other, I have a very good class.

One of the guys that is going to be playing in my game asked me if he could be a hexblade. I told him to give me the book that has it and he gave me Complete Warrior. I looked through the book but the only class I was ok with was the hexblade. To me the Samurai and Swashbuckler are just glorified fighters. I see the hexblade as a ranger (or paladin) type class for the Sorcercer. Hexblade is the only class I'm allowing from that book and I don't see why it's denying Lawful when it says that it's something their born with. So I even went ahead and took away that prerequisite.

Thank you for the correction Archwizard! I read it and was confused, re-read that they are born with it, and moved on. Hence to say I didn't remember what it exactly was. And I gave the book back so I am unable to look it up anymore.

Complete Warrior, for sure.

It's more, well "core-ish" to me. Meaning that the rules in the Complete Divine/Arcana/Warrior are a lot closer to the original 3 books. Tome of Battle, from what I understand, is entirely new stuff.

If you're intersted in adding a strange new aspect to your game (maneuvers), then Tome of Battle is for you. But all in all I think CW would be a better pick.

And if the PCs DO win their ways through all the liches to Larloch, “he” will almost certainly be just another lich (loaded with explosive spells) set up as a decoy, with dozens of hidden liches waiting to pounce on any surviving PCs who ‘celebrate’ after they take Larloch down. As the REAL Larloch watches (magical scrying) from afar. Myself, as DM, I’d be wondering: “Such a glorious game, so many opportunities laid out before your PCs to devote your time to, and THIS fixation is the best you can come up with? Are you SURE you’re adventurers?” -Ed Greenwood
