So as not to further de-rail the scroll about the new Complete II sourcebooks... I'm opening this scroll to follow on from the previous side-discussion that occured within.

Only if they update autognomes in there as well . . .
That'd be nice... and I'd have another valid option for the now past-retired NPC of the Sage in my campaign (who doesn't want to embrace lichdom, the deathless type, or any other type of immortality that relates to undead).
Of course, there's always the soulmech .

What's the problem? I might have an idea or two.

You know I love the soulmechs!
Indeed I do. The problem though, is converting them in a way that makes them applicable for proper D&D rules.
Didnt Gond already do that in Prince of Lies?

The Gond-forged armor? Yes. But it's not really relevant for this... since the armor itself is supposed to be an awfully powerful artifact and one that causes incredible suffering on the part of the wearer. That's not something I want for the Sage NPC.

Well, as you know... stats and 3e rules aren't my thing. So perhaps I'm seeing difficulty in a potential conversion for the soulmech where there shouldn't actually be one? I wouldn't really know...
If you can help though... I'd be curious to see what you come up with.

What SJ sourcebooks does this appear in? Can't promise anything soon, but I can at least try to get the supplements to do it.

The construct should include a slow feature, to reflect the Sage's ability to start a project and then not touch it for a while... |

Outrageous. I needed a good laugh...
-- Seriously though... it doesn't have to be a soulmech for this idea. Any artificial construct that can hold a soul will do. Suggestions on another forum brought up a WH40K-styled Dreadnaught (or even going as far as what the Thousand Sons are) to a psiforged (variant of the warforged) -styled construct that holds the soul within a psionically-charged crystal apparatus.

I'm not up enough on my 40k lore to catch the Thousand Sons reference...
It could be just a variant phylactery, like a lich has, put into a specially designed golem.
Actually, it might not even need to be that complex: remember Minder, from the FR comic? That might be a bit too simplistic, though...
I'd imagine that you could also craft a specific spell or ritual... First, use some magic to transfer the soul to a special receptacle, and then another spell/part of the ritual to bind it to the construct... |

Basically, the flesh of each of the Space Marines in the Chapter was turned to dust, and their souls trapped within armor that had become completely sealed. They become little more than automata.

Maybe... but it's provided me with another idea actually. I want to check some other references to be sure first.

That seems like the more likely course at any rate. All that really remains is to fashion a tale about how the Sage, Rastromo, has come across such a spell.
