Posting this for anyone, but kind of aimed at Markustay. Has anyone who is really interested in maps of the realms ever made a collective map that covers say all of Faerun (kind of like the old trail map), Kara-Tur, and Zakhara? I'm talking one with all the detail, not something like the scholar's views. I've been thinking about getting a nice wide format printer (say a 24' one) and thought this would make a nice wall print.

I had one that was around 90% finished, but its gone.

I map other worlds now. When I find something brings me more frustration then joy, its time to move on.

Damn, sorry to hear that. BTW, what software do you use for your mapping?

It is a pity for us but, of course, that's the better attitude, Markus.

To the OP, though, I suggest you try getting your hands on HandsomeRob's work. Especifically his full 800MB map of Toril.

Nope. I plan to finish the three maps that are mostly complete at this time: The Impiltur/Bloodstone one, the Sharreach one, and my Misbegotten Realms... which is where my current game is set.

If you want to see what I am currently working on, checkout The Ark Project. The new maps I do on are not 'in the FR style'... I think some of you might be surprised.

Oh... and give the page a 'Like' while you're there.

Liked.

Interesting use of transplanted Earth coastline elements, by the way. Hard to get more "realistic" than "real" after all.

I'd say Thank you, but the credit for all of that goes to Dalor Darden, who gave me the 'rough map'. He wanted to use all those coastlines (and made me crazy with those fjords LOL).

Thats only the first of 3 world maps, BTW. The one I am currently working on is like nothing anyone has ever seen from me before, so keep checking back. Its going to be a fully-realized fantasy world for use with RPGs and eventually its own novel line. Its really Dalor's project - I'm just the Cartographer - he's doing all the writing.

What writing I will be doing professionally will be on Red Aegis, and on that project Mike 'the master' Schley is the cartographer.

That sounds exactly like what I'm looking for. Any idea how to contact him?

I've already visited Dalor's Ark-world...seems very interesting (and I liked it, btw). Anyway, I'm glad to hear you're still working on the Misbegotten Realms. I actually get a bit frustrated waiting on it. But, hey, can't (and please don't) rush perfection.

Anyway, I think I'm going to hop over to Dalor's page and ask a few questions.

MT is really kicking out some superior map work!

The Historical and Political maps are me messing around with the coastal map outline he did for me (and yes...it did drive him insane!).

The entire work is going really well though...I don't want to mess with the OPs thread here except to say:

I second the recommend that you get HRs map. It has a few artistic elements I didn't agree with (like the coastlines of Cormyr/Sembia and the area around Westgate being so close together)...but over all it is an amazing work!

The Old Grey Box and AD&D for me!

Here's the thread for Handsome Rob's maps.

The original links are bad, IIRC, but I believe someone posted working links to all of them somewhere late in the thread (go to the last page or so).

EDIT: Nevermind - just go HERE for all the pieces.

EDIT2: Also, don't blame Handsome Rob for the weirdness with those Sembia/Cormyr coastlines - he took that from one of my earlier maps. Originally the straight was much narrower in early editions, and I 'over-compensated' for the narrowness of the straight on that map. It was one of my composite maps, merging earlier edition maps with the 3e map, and I've since learned not to bother with the composites, because in a lot of cases it just makes other things worse (as you can see there by how I 'fudged' the straight).

Which, of course, all leads back to why I won't be mapping FR going forward - the changes from edition to edition have just made it a very frustrating experience.

I don't blame him MT...just said I didn't care for that bit.

Between you and him, the FR has been pretty well mapped up as far as canon goes. There is always room for more of course, but that is pretty much as good as it can get what you two have done!

The Old Grey Box and AD&D for me!

I actually prefer HandsomeRob's collage of Cormyr/Sembia (and thus yours by extension) than any of the official maps. The Neck is supposed to be narrow from the descriptions...

Hmm, he took it down, apparently. And I'm not really comfortable with uploading it since I don't actually have his permission to do it.

The best I can suggest it to post on that thread and hope he comes back around... or someone who knows him better than me can upload it. I thought he was once talking with the moderators about hosting it on this site?

The link to the full map in that page says the file is no longer available for me, Markus...

Though the sections are a very good help already, but not what sleyvas was asking for.
