Randomly gathering lore on other nearby realms to get a picture of Netheril's neighbours.
Looking at Rystall Wood, it seems to me like someone (or something) had a vendetta against the elves, regularly assassinating the rulers or arranging accidents until unsuitable rulers were in place (and then they were manipulated).
Also had a quick look at Sarphil and its the right time frame for it to be founded by gold dwarves from the Shaar to move up and along the north eastern coast of the sea of fallen start until they reach the impiltur region and found sarphil. Its also stated as being a shield dwarf kingdom. I suspect, given that drow and duergar carved the realm in two after the dark court slaughter that perhaps sarphil was formed by both shield and gold dwarfs into two kingdoms united into a single realm (perhaps it even had two Kings). The name Sarphil could even be derived from the fusion of the two royal houses.
Has anyone else noticed the similarity between Yrlaancel and Yrlaphon. Perhaps a migration of sorts?
Looking at netheril in a new light following George's introduction of Weave Anchors in his zulkirate of Thay article.
The weave seemingly was not world spanning in the past and spread out as new weave anchors were added to boost its power.
Thus in the ancient times the likes of the nether scrolls would have been an invaluable tool for promoting the use of the weave, giving them to a new power nation (sarrukh, batrachi, aearee) in the area and getting them hooked on easy magic, then more permanent weave anchors are made and then these nations destroy themselves with too much magic.
So netheril are set down a similar course and they add lots more magic to the weave but none of that is available today. The official line is that mystra restructured the weave and removed spells but the question is how.
Karsus tried to become a god by draining mystryl of power, but mystryl was the weave so he actually tried to drain the weave of power and it sounds like he tried to drain the nether scrolls themselves.
I wonder if karsus is permanently linked somehow to a damaged set of nether scrolls (damaged by his draining), and the weave was restructured because the nether scrolls were removed from the weave, they are no longer part of it, they are a backup. So netherils spells are still in the nether scrolls but not in the weave anymore. I reckon azuth did this restructuring, visiting all the weave anchors and relinking them together into a new weave (it took decades for magic to return to normal) and he deliberately left out the nether scrolls in this new weave.
