Starting Great Detectives: Famous real-life sleuths and their most baffling cases by Robert Liston.

Found it in an antique shop. I hope it's an interesting read.

Look for me and my content at EN World (user name: sanishiver).

Read the Wulfgar short story To Legend He Goes. It felt rushed and lacked substance. A full length, Drizzt-free, novel detailing Wulfgar's return to Icewind Dale would have been fantastic.

I'll likely finish The Last American Vampire this eve. I'm quite enjoying it. It's Interview With the Vampire (which is explicitly referenced in the book!) and historical fiction. It follows the main character thru his involvement with various historical figures and events -- the colony at Jamestown, chasing Jack the Ripper (with the assistance of Arthur Conan Doyle and Bram Stoker), the assassination of Rasputin (Tesla helped!), Elliot Ness, an attempted assassination on Hitler, meeting and working for various US Presidents, including both Roosevelts, his friendship with Mark Twain...

I think next will be a re-read of Stardust -- I saw a movie the other day with a familiar face, and when I looked the guy up, he was in the movie Stardust. The book is more of a faerie tale than the movie is; I want to re-read the book to see if it's something I can read to my son now, or see if I need to wait a bit longer.

The Reaver, book 4 of the Sundering series.

After reading the Drizzt books I delved into these to expand my FR knowledge. Companions was ok, Godborn was really good, The Adversary was pretty bad, and the Reaver is going strong. Having fun so far.

Finished Some of the Best of Tor.com: 2014 Edition. Great story collection!

Read The Dark Tower - The Drawing of Three: House of Cards a graphic novel set in Stephen King's Dark Tower series. It was good, but not as good as some of the others.

Next up I am thinking of reading The Croning by Laird Barron. Has anyone read it?

I'm pretty sure I've not read this one since becoming a father; or if I have, it was while my little guy was still a wee baby. Either way, I'm discovering it's not the most kid-friendly fairie tale... The description of the encounter betwixt Dunstan and the captive girl is a little too graphic for a 4 year old, and Mommy certainly wouldn't like the part where the star drops the F-bomb after falling from the sky. While that's certainly an appropriate use for the F-bomb, and while my son has heard that word before (thanks, Grandpa!), my wife prefers to limit such things. Maybe a couple more years...

Still gonna read the book, though. I recall quite liking it.

You should try some of the older Realms novels next.

Is some one the older Realms books like Brimstone Angels? I am reading the second one, and I know the MC is 17 or so, but she acts and thinks SO young and naive? It really annoys me to read about her. Does this get better later on in the series? And I was wondering if earlier Realms novels read as YA novels?

@Artamas: why would you give up on Kushiel's Dart? It is literally one of the best novels I have ever read, and I am curious on what made you give it up?

Just because you cherish something doesn't mean that others do. The writing was decent but I felt like the author was trying to lace it with too much "intrigue" which wasn't working for me. Also it didn't feel like a fantasy book at all, more like an erotica book with a dash of fantasy.

I finished Stardust last night. Now I find myself not really sure what I want to read... So for the moment, I'm going to read a new Shadowrun book I found on my shelf, Fire & Frost.

Lurue only knows what I'll read after that. There's a lot of stuff I kinda want to read, just not right now...

Finished Stonehenge by Bernard Cornwell. Wow, what a solid story. I love historical fiction novels where you really start to believe that you are reading about something that actually happened and you are merely looking through a window of time.

Finished The Croning by Laird Barron. A good book for the Halloween season.

Now reading another supernatural/horror-type book called A Head Full of Ghosts by Paul Tremblay.

I'll finish that Shadowrun book I'm reading this eve. It's okay, not great... I do have issues with some of the character names, though -- particularly the troll named Pineapple. That name and some of the others are just too "cutesy" to work as names of serious shadowrunners. I like the character, just not the name.

I'm going to re-read the Ex-Heroes series, next. I don't do the zombie schtick, but I like the mashup of superheroes in a post-zombie apocalypse LA. Plus, there's another book in the series coming out early next year, so refreshing my memory on the books is a good idea.

I am starting Butcher's newest novel The Aeronaut's Windlass. I have great expectations, mainly because Butcher's name is on the cover. I haven't read anything of his that I didn't like. Hopefully Jim delivers another winner.

Finished A Head Full of Ghosts by Paul Tremblay. Quite good. Not really horror, but an interesting tale about a young girl who may or may not have been possessed as told some years later by her younger sister. I hadn't read any of the author's previous work but plan to check some out.

Next up I am thinking to read The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman.

Finished The Companions. Pretty good, though SPOILER bringing back the Companions so Drizzt could feel warm and cozy again seems bizarre and lazy. Would have been nice to see Wulfgar's rebirth story as well.

I finished those zombie/superhero books a couple days ago, and I'm now reading Gideon Smith and the Mask of the Ripper. It's the third of the Gideon Smith books, which are a mixture of steampunk and pulp thriller. Steampunk in that it's Victorian England, with airships and clockwork and steam everywhere, and pulp thriller in that the series has included mummies, vampires, mysterious ancient artifacts that are possibly from Atlantis, and even a mechanical brass dragon made in ancient Egypt.

The author has fun with some other notable figures, too -- Bram Stoker meeting Elizabeth Bathory, Inspector Lestrade being in charge of the Jack the Ripper investigation (Sherlock Holmes is referenced, but not by name; he's considered mad and a patient of Dr. Watson's), Albert Einstein's father, and even someone who was most likely the grandfather of Indiana Jones.
