This is an open thread. If you want to share your first experience please feel free.

My first Forgotten Realms DM

Once upon a time I traveled outside my neighborhood. I rode my BMX dirtbike to a friend’s house with a backpack full of Joes. He invited me over by phone to play Joes vs. Cobra. However once I arrived the playtime went from Joe’s vs. Cobra to D&D. My experience at this time was very limited; but, they knew I played Ravenloft. (Poorly I might add) They were getting ready to travel back to Barovia after an ill-fated trip the previous night.

The dungeonmaster was an out-of-towner who happened to be my friend’s older brother. My experience with divorced parents’ remarrying was even more limited than gaming. Anyways, they needed a ceric.
Did I know how to play one?

Sure, my last character was a cleric who was devoured by zombies.

This made the DM happy. He handed me a list of deities to choose from. I looked it over an asked who are these guys? Where is the Deities Demigods thingy?

Little did I know the DM subscribed (!) to something called Dragon Magazine. And he liked those articles from ”the Greenwood fellow”

So, at the age of 10 in 1985, I inadvertently went to the Forgotten Realms. Homebrew style of course there was no official setting yet.

My cleric of Aslan was drained dried by the giant spider.

For Vincent.

“I don’t know what you Believe. I don’t know what happens once you are gone. But what I do know is once you are gone then you no longer interact with this world. Good gaming buddy, where ever you are.”

the skinny kid who sneezed a lot,

Randal

I hope Candlekeep continues to be the friendly forum of fellow Realms-lovers that it has always been, as we all go through this together. If you don’t want to move to the “new” Realms, that doesn’t mean there’s anything wrong with either you or the “old” Realms. Goodness knows Candlekeep, and the hearts of its scribes, are both big enough to accommodate both. If we want them to be.
(Strikes dramatic pose, raises sword to gleam in the sunset, and hopes breeches won’t fall down.)
Enough for now. The Realms lives! I have spoken! Ale and light wines half price, served by a smiling Storm Silverhand fetchingly clad in thigh-high boots and naught else! Ahem . .
So saith Ed. <snip>
love to all,
THO
