This type of thing has been already discussed. The answer is it depends.
If moving with wagons on land it takes longer.
Travel by water it depends on speed of boat or ship.

In either case it becomes also a question of weather conditions.

The core books indicate normal rate of travel, the FR source books provide the distance to be traveled.

"Small beings can have small wisdom," the dragon said. "And small wise beings are better than small fools. Listen: Wisdom is caring for afterwards."
"Caring for afterwards ...? Ker repeated this without understanding.
"After action, afterwards," the dragon said. "Choose the afterwards first, then the action. Fools choose action first."

A close look at decent maps (in and out of the Realms) shows "rest points" spaced out at roughly even intervals along major roadways. In the Realms these map points (probably inns and taverns) indicate each day's travel by horse.

Water travel is unaffected by terrain, though more by adverse weather. Weather conditions are also largely seasonal, which has large effect on both forms of travel.

It is somewhere around 1600 miles by how the crow flies. As was mentioned before the dangers of the roads and the many rest stops as well as mode of land travel are a big variable. By sea would depend on mode as well as storms and dangerous encounters.

I did figure up the time for travel from Baldur's Gate to Waterdeep once and it averaged around 579 miles 3 days or more depending on dangers. From Shadowdale to Waterdeep on horse back riding hard on trade roads, without any dangers (Ha,ha!) taking rest it would take around 36 days. This goes into a long list of resting areas routes and again possible using rivers and partial by land by sea. Oh yes here it is! This turned into an ongoing adventure for the group I am DMing now. Though they found themselves searching for portals and Fey Crossroads. They also ended up getting caught up in intrigues in Cormyr, but any way below is the info. I researched for our present game. These are general stats not mentioning encounters or diversion.
