All,

Forgive the self-promotion, but for those interested, a sample chapter of "Twilight Falling," book one of the Erevis Cale Trilogy, is posted on the WoTC site here:

Yeah I saw that. Almost gave in to temptation to read it, but as I've yet to read the last Sembian book, I better put it off.

Hm, I do have this 30 dollar gift card to B&N sitting here...

This is probably the most anticipated of all the books for me because of all the Forgotten Realms books I have read thus far Cale has to be my absolute favorite.

Thanks, uh...er...Erevis. I hope you enjoy Twilight Falling. I'd guess it will hit the shelves in mid to late July.

Persistent, aren't you?

Seriously, between friends and family, all of my complimentary copies are accounted for. If you were really interested in a signed copy, we could easily work that out (though it'd cost you a bit in postage). Anyway, if you're interested, shoot me an email: pskemp@sbcglobal.net

Either way, I hope you enjoy the book. I'm convinced it's the best Cale story to-date.

What's the release date on this book?? I went to get it Saturday, and they had "The Alabaster Staff", which I didn't think was coming out until next month.

Bellua,

August 1 is the scheduled release date. I suspect it will be in stores in mid-to-late July. Sorry for the confusion

Whew! I was worried I missed it, they sold out, and I'd have to settle for a "second edition".

Hey, don't worry about the self promo stuff.

Wow! That has no saving throw written all over it.

You know, it never occurred to me that fans would want to hold off on reading a sample chapter. Makes sense, though. Still, it's only the prologue and chapter one, so no real spoilers, in the sense that events are out of order from the book overall. Anyway, not long to wait now.

I am very particular about reading samples from new novels soon to be released. If I am really excited about a new novel coming out, I try my best to avoid downloading samples, not reading forum threads with spoilers, and not logging onto mailing lists.

Both Barnes and Noble and the always slow, Amazon, now show this novel in stock and shipping within 24 hours.

Reviews are coming in on WOTC FR Novel messageboard. I believe I've seen three so far and all have been positive, strongly positive in fact.

I have the book on my wish list and will be getting it shipped most likely within the next month. I would get it sooner, but I recently got myself immersed into the George R.R. Martin's "A Song of Ice and Fire" series and have no plans on reading anything until I finish what is available of those books. I hope Mr. Kemp understands.

::choke, splutter::

Mournblade!! Erevis Cale is the main character from book 2 of the Sembia Series, entitled Shadows Witness. One of the best FR books of all time, IMHO. The character was so popular that WotC gave the author, Paul S Kemp, his own trilogy for him. I highly recommend you read this novel. I cant wait for Twilight Falling too, ive been waiting for this novel for a lonnnnnng time.

Who is Erevis Cale? Think of a character somewhat like Clint Eastwood in "The Unforgiven." At least I believe that similarity is something the author alluded to in an interview regarding the Erevis Cale character.

OH geez. I guess I better read those then. I read the summary of the sembia series and decided to skip those. Is he listed in the FR campaign guide at all? That is how I know alot of these characters. After the harper series (some of which were TERRIBLE) I had a policy of not reading any NEW characters of the forgotten realms novels and only reading about the characters I knew that is probably why I missed it. I guess I shall have to break that policy and read the sembia series. was the sembia series the series they wrote of all the NOBLES and the cities. IT looked alot like a harper type of series with miscellaneous characters in it. I only liked the RED WIZARDS and Elaine Cunningham's harper novels.

Also is there anyplace I can get a comprehensive summary of some of these NOBLES books or Cities books? Sometimes I would like to know what happens in the books, even if I don't wnat to read them. But I guess since it has rave reviews I'll read the Sembia series.

Is the sembia series different from the nobles series?

Firstly, Erevis Cale's official stats are listed right here in Candlekeep. This is an article with commentary on some of the novels, especially Shadow's Witness.

As for miscellaneous characters, while that is true for this series, they are mostly all related by blood, so there is not much chance of being confused that much.

The Sembia series is very different from the Nobles series, in many ways. One of the main differences is that the Sembia series deals with characters and events exclusively in Sembia, mainly House Uskevren, a leading merchant house serving the Hulorn of Sembia. The Nobles series details events surrounding the specific leaders of several realms across Faerun, from Tethyr to Aglarond.

As for the comprehensive summary, I have a few bookmarks at home. I will try and email them to you when I get home. Your other option is to try the FR Mailing List. There are always somebody's thoughts on a particular novel posted on there, and they are normally very comprehensive.

Mournblade, before you have a look at Cale's stats at the link Sage posted above, be advised that the write-up contains implicit spoilers for Shadow's Witness. And on that note, I would recommend reading Halls of Stormweather (book one in the Sembia series) before moving on to Shadow's Witness. Stormweather introduces all of the Sembia characters, each in their own novella. You never know, you might like lots of them.

As for differences from the nobles series, I think Sage said it well -- the Sembia novels revolve around seven main characters, and the stories crossover and interrelate in interesting ways. But don't take my word for it. As Sage recommended, look around, check the reviews on Amazon, the WoTC boards, etc.

Oh, and stop ignoring new characters! Lots of good new stuff out there.

For everyone else, have you been able to find Twilight Falling on the shelves yet? Just curious. Amazon and B&N show it to be available, and some reviews are already coming in, but I can't find it at the local Borders in my town.
