I believe it's now showing November 27. My editor last told me that she had paper copies in her hands and that hopefully I would soon as well.
Also, a short story I wrote to accompany the book should be up on their site soon as well. |

Just showed up in my local store last night. Read the first two chapters and so far so good. It is set in an area unfamiliar to me so I am not familiar with a few of the weapons and what the general look of the uniforms and peoples and such. Enjoying the differences in the two groups fighting together. The maquar (The elitest better than you , but we will let you die for us) and the Durpari (mercenaries, who I already feel to be far more noble than their "Betters"). I see alot of opportunity for discord and lessons to be learned. I see some "come uppance" on the way for Jhoqu and Taennen at the hands of Adeenya and Marlke.
Also good to see an enemy unfamiliar to me, I look forward to learning more about them.
P.S. I can't believe your first big battle had half-giants and no metion of the dwarf!! That is Blasphemy!! (I am sure my good friend Chosen of Moradin will have words for you on this )
P.S.S. The map took the "suspense" of Taennen's injury in battle away. It could have been a nice touch to tease with the death of someone who seemed so important.
Unless of course, his quarters on the map were named as a memorial |

That's a great point about the map! That hadn't occurred to me at all. I'll have to pass that on to my editor. It's funny when you think about it.

It was also little disappointing that they printed Elaine Cunningham's praise for your handling of the formians in the front of the book. It sort of takes the mystery out of "I wonder what the heck is going on at Neversfall?" Guess its formians...
I am only up to chapter 3 and so far I am really liking it, other than the formian spoiler. It is great that you introduce the Adama so early, it really cements the setting. The Persian colors of the Maquar was also a nice touch. I haven't had a chance to really get to know any of the characters, so I will comment on them later. |

I think you will find that the formians quote is really not so much of a spoiler as you might think  . When you finish the book I would be really curious to revisit this topic with you to see if I'm correct about that.

Also, be sure to check out the companion story ("The Way") I wrote now available on the WotC site. The story is set before the events of the book and focus on Corbrinn, who is a secondary character in the novel, and how he came to find himself entangled in the events from the book. |

Thanks Ed! I had in mind the swords the big bad mummies used in The Mummy Returns and that is very close. I got a bit of an egyptian flair when you described the colors of uniforms, but then they screamed that they were fighting fo the Rajah...so I was not so sure about the weapons looking "egyptian".
P.S. I am enjoying the story, I really like Adeenya, Taennen shows signs of growth and Jhoqo(no matter how cool and unusual his name is) is a pompous, arrogant ass. Good writing! If you are not careful you will have me comparing your writing with Erik's.

RW,
I was shooting for Turkish meets Egyptian meets just a touch of Russian, so I think conjuring the Egyptian images is spot on.
I'm glad someone else likes the name Jhoqo. It came to me before any of the others, actually. I hope for the day someone says to me that they stole the name for use in a D&D game or something. That'd be a heck of a kick!

I did some research for a Mulhorand campaign and may have seen even nastier Khopesh’s than the “nice” link you posted - something that makes the reading all the more exciting

The khopesh has long been one of my favorite weapons so it was an easy choice for Taennen who tries so hard to fit into the Maquar mold but still has those points of individuality he just can't leave behind. |

| Well between my Networking and Telecommunication class and my purchase and subsequent addiction to working on my sketches in Photoshop CS3, I finally managed to finish The Nether Scroll and dive into this tome. I'm only a few pages in, but I am already loving it. For some reason I haven't pinpointed yet, I have taken an immediate liking to Adeenya, and the names, titles, descriptions of the uniforms, and inclusion of the Adama has me feeling fully immersed in the region. |

Picked up the book yesterday and enjoying it so far ^.^
It may be just me, but I'm seeing a lot of similarities between the formians and the Maquar. Obeidiance to an absolute authority, single minded adherence to their laws, wariness and mistrust of outsiders... I really hope later on the Durpari come through all right, especially Adeenya and Marlke. I also hope that Taennen has some sense knocked into him eventually. |

Adeenya is an interesting character, and I like how, despite having two groups from really similar cultures, there still seems to be a lot of diversity, not just between the two groups, but even among the groups themselves.
Formians showing up is an interesting twist as well. Its cool to see something that is a threat that isn't a plotting evil so much as just an irresistible force that doesn't really think in terms of good and evil, and honestly isn't evil, just . . . is. |

The formians were a ton of fun to write. I'm a big believer in the notion that most "villians" aren't villians at all...they're just people doing what they think is right. It's the rest of us disagreeing with them that makes them "villians" or "evil".
