Have taken a bit of a hiatus from my Realms reading and with a few weeks off and a vacation coming up, I've armed myself with some well-reviewed titles. Curious what you think of the ones I've selected - would love to hear about timeline (ie, where in DR am I focusing), depth of setting (ie, ability into the characters/storyline in other works), and overall thoughts:

- Elfshadow
- Elfsong
- City of Ravens
- City of Splendors

(I have the rest of Elaine's elf novels, including Evermeet, but did not take them with me. I also was considering Darkwalker on Moonshae).

Thanks!

Thanks Tanthalas! I'm going to start with City of Ravens. Out of curiosity l, which 4e novel did Jack appear in? I haven't read much by way of 4e novels but am curious l.

Elfsong and Elfshadow are both great books.

City of Ravens is superb and very entertaining. The main character appears in a second book set in the 4E timeline, but, while still good, doesn't shine as much as the first novel.

Of those 4 books I'd consider City of Splendors the weakest link. I have no idea how the book was written, but it really felt like you could see which parts each author wrote, their writing styles didn't mesh well, imo.

Darkwalker on Moonshaes was the first FR novel I believe, but I didn't like the trilogy much. It felt like the author really wanted the readers to dislike the main character, lol.

Silver Shadows is 1364 DR, I think, while City of Ravens is 1370 DR.

Thanks @jornan and @BenN.

I actually do have Silver Shadows - believe it's the third book in the series. Really looking forward to it - and The City of Ravens; have always been interested in playing a campaign based in Ravens Bluff (and realize there's a published material on it) but haven't had the opportunity. I hope the novel will give me a sense of the setting and then some.

Timeline question - any idea what years in DR they are set in? Any of all of the books I've listed.

If I were you, I would also pick up Elaine's Silver Shadows. As well as being a fantastic read, as far as the overall story timeline goes, it runs simultaneously with Elfsong (IIRC).

Great picks.

-Elfshadow and Elfsong are classic Realms.
-City of Ravens is one of my favourite FR books, it is so entertaining!.
-I also really enjoyed City of Splendors, but it might be a bit more difficult to get into.
