What does it take to build an intelligent sword in the realms? Trap the soul? Were all intelligent weapons actual people once?

You're more than welcome. And it's George. Mr Krashos is my dad.

Thanks, mr Krashos.

Finally managed to track down a friend with a copy. Awesome spells in that tome BTW.

Loved the little lore nugget that most simple intelligent swords (int less than 13) have been bound with a dog spirit, as they are wont to track down or point to things of interest for their masters. Might have to use that knowledge in an upcoming session involving a sentient dagger...

Cheers!

The last pages of the old FR4 The Magister accessory had some info on how weapons are imbued with intelligence in the Realms. Check it out.

Well, as I recall the Intelligence comes from the skill of the crafter. A smart sword is a result of the skill and a component of luck. There is no soul trapping required.

All intelligent swords were not people or souls of other races. It should be noted that some swords capture part of the soul, like moon blades , and clearly a soul can be trapped into a sword.
