I've been kind of digging around for "new" ideas and such for my campaign, and also one of my players wants to try his hand with a one-shot adventure, so here I am, back again to mine the depths of lore and crunchy bits for materials to use! For the new adventure, I'm thinking of a nature-based warlock, like a hedge-witch of sorts. Any thoughts?

Merry meet once again, Ayrik!

Yes, I am aware of all that, in fact that was exactly the sort of thing I had in mind, as your idea of a "shaman/sorcerer" type, or a pseudo druid of sorts. I ended up going with the Earth Mother patron idea, as it had plant control and a healing seed ability, and some cool invocations that let me talk and make friends with animals. With the Pact of the Alchemist, racial abilities and skills I took (she's a drow), I ended up with a sort of hedge-witch/wise-woman healer and woodland protector type. And after I got her all set up, I discovered that with the invocations and warlock spells I took, I'm- playing a Disney princess..... (I think I'm Rapunzel? Mixed with the Stepmother from Snow White- cause she was an expert potion-maker. As a drow, no less. Huh.)

Welcome back Alystra, been a long time

Warlocks have to choose a pact with an otherworldly "patron entity" or power source. I've seen a lot of canon and non-canon possibilities. Eldritch, Fey, Ancient/Elder Powers, Titans, Dragons, Devils, Demons, Liches, Cults and Covens, legendary archetype creatures like the Phoenix, etc.

A "nature" type of warlock might draw power from a druid-like patron (like Silvanus) or from an anti-druid-like patron (like Malar) or even from an unaligned nature patron (like an unintelligent nature elemental, an animistic nature spirit, or a beast lord). And would seem almost like a kind of shaman-sorceror who manifests and casts priest/divine magics. Maybe even a sort of warlock/monk hybrid who meditates on flowers when not studying kickass martial arts. A nature warlock might be affiliated with druid circles, various temples or priests, elemental cults, beast cults, even monsters.

The "nature" type of patron/entity/concept might compel the warlock to preserve nature and to protect the balance of nature (like a druid) - or it might compel the warlock to embrace darker, more brutal, and more animalistic nature (like a priest of Malar). A pact patron might in fact embrace all aspects of nature and expose the warlock to a constant inner struggle between human urges and bestial urges, benign and savage, growing and killing, predator and prey. Either way, the nature warlock would be intolerant of gross trespasses against nature (like strip mining and animated undeads).

Perhaps also a good way to involve lycanthropic powers, although these might intrude into Selune's theological domain.

Nature deities seem to generally cooperate and collaborate since they all have the same goals. They're generally not overly concerned when their servants are killed, for that is just the natural order of things. And they generally embrace magic as a facet of nature. But they generally conflict with forces which abuse or destroy nature: interloping planars and outsiders, machines, civilization, humans, dwarves, orcs, sometimes even dragons and elves. And they react poorly to corruptions of nature caused by entities like dark Shar or rotting Moander.

Oh it doesn't have to be official, it can be homebrew. I think I came across the Earthmother patron myself when Googling, but was hoping there might be something in a discussion here, as well.

Thanks, Wooly! Good to see a familiar "face", lol. As noted, I've been hunting for info for a new pc, and thought this might be a good place to look. Do you know of any threads where I could find info for a nature-based warlock? Looking for something like a witch, using a nature-themed patron and pact.

I'd help if I could, but warlocks have never grabbed me so I don't pay much attention to them.

I did a quick Google search, and I saw where someone did the Earthmother as a patron, but I didn't see anything official.
