Got inspired by a Facebook post over on Forgotten Realms Archives.

In the deepest mines below
Golden rivers ever flow.

Sound off! Dig some ore! Sound off! Even more!

Orcs like blood and orcs like gore
Kill them all and mine some ore.

Sound off! Dig some ore! Sound off! Even more!

Arcrowns sit upon their thrones
Made from orc and goblin bones

Sound off! Dig some ore! Sound off! Even more!

Sun goes up and we go down
Mine the gold to make the crown

Sound off! Dig some ore! Sound off! Even more!

Sun goes down and we stay up
Digging gold until we sup.

Sound off! Dig some ore! Sound off! Even more!

When at last we take a rest
Dreams of gold we do suggest

Sound off! Dig some ore! Sound off! Even more!

'Morrow's yet another day
Get yer pick and on yer way

Sound off! Dig some ore! Sound off! Even more!

(And repeat.)

All great songs, BUT you have to record them and post to youtube. =)

Thank you =)

YES... I have ALWAYS loved that song, and I'm actually surprised I'm not the only one.
I watched this cartoon as a child and this marching song made me suddenly aware that a whole world of (good) music existed beyond the sing-along nursery rhyme Disney-like drudgery my parents had thus far encouraged. Several decades of fanatical heavy metal concerts followed. This particular cartoon is rather awful cheese (even though Lord of the Rings is a classic tale) but Where There's A Whip was always fondly remembered.

Sing it in dwarven and I'll be extra happy

I know the tune is different, but it reminds me of that old rawhide song. That would probably make a good conversion into FR somehow for merchant caravans... maybe something for caravan guards to sing.

My favourite was always “Bilbo Baggins” by Leonard Nimoy. Pure gold.

Man those Rankin Bass shows had some great songs. I even managed to find the soundtrack to The Hobbit a few years ago. It's like pure, undiluted childhood nostalgia.

I don't know but I been told
(I don't know but I been told)
Under them mountains is plenty gold
(Under them mountains is plenty gold)
Mmm, good
(Mmm, good!)
Feels good
(Feels good!)
Is good
(Is good!)
Real good
(Real good!)
Good for you
(Good for you!)
Good for me
(Good for me!)

That's pretty good, but I think the one I wrote has a catchier tune. I just ask that no one tell the Bee Gees about it.

Well, you can tell by the way I wear my beard
I'm a forgin' dwarf, my eyebrows seared
Hammers loud and fires warm, I've been forging steel
Since I was born
And now it's all right, it's okay
And you may look the other way
We can all understand
The way that gold affects a man

Under a mountain, embraced by stone,
You're working a mine, working a mine!
Feel the rocks breakin' and anvils a-shakin'
And working a mine, working a mine!
Ah, ha, ha, ha, working a mine, working a mine
Ah, ha, ha, ha, working a mine!

Well now, hammers low and hammers high,
Moradin and Clangeddin, I really try...
My swinging hammer pays my dues,
I'm a forgin' man and I just can't lose
You know it's all right, it's okay,
I'll live to craft another day!
We can all understand
The way that gold affects a man

Under a mountain, embraced by stone,
You're working a mine, working a mine!
Feel the rocks breakin' and anvils a-shakin'
And working a mine, working a mine!
Ah, ha, ha, ha, working a mine, working a mine
Ah, ha, ha, ha, working a mine!
