Bringing the Zhentarim into the modern realms and detailing their doings / holdings / membership is a long-term project of mine.

I've begun to organize this project into a book that would be available for for download on one of the custom material sites (IDK which, I've never "published" something like that before).

So far, the book is about 45 pages, consisting mostly of old style character descriptions of the most powerful and influential members of the Zhentarim. Many are taken from old FR products or novels and brought into the present with simple plot devices (they were petrified, or cloned or imprisoned or temp. stasised, etc). I am not an artist so the illustrations are both minimal and all taken from other sources. All in all it is going quite well so far, I'd say.

I would love input. I'll gladly email a pdf copy of what I have completed so far to anyone who requests one.

Let me know.

Great Reader Mage,

I'm very interested to see what you have. Do you have an FTP for it, or just emailing it to people?

Best regards,

I'm Very happy with how the covers turned out - modeled after the black FOR volumes and using an old fantasy image off the cover of one of the later Endless Quest books.

Well every time I converted from word to off the background went a bit squiff, the fonts and spacing always needed adjusting and every time I edited something it misaligned all the pictures and content. I spent more time doing the tidying before a release than I did making stuff up.

Wordpress.com is free and it's all text, you can mess with the html if you want but I haven't found a need to with the new blocks format.

I'm not sure about elsewhere but in England wifi is everywhere and internet data on a phone is cheap so I can read what I like when i like on my phone. I have even done a few edits on my phone but I much prefer the precision of a laptop for editing pages. My last workplace started monitoring every document used as well as all webpages and connected devices so I always assume everything on a work pc is monitored and so do all my fun things on my phone.

I guess it's what you prefer. I like the web, it's easily accessible where I live and cheap so I have no barriers to it.

I would just give the file here but I don't think that they've made a way to attach a file to thread yet.

I could not disagree more. You don't revise and edit the pdf, you revise and edit the original file, then convert it to pdf.

Web pages require an active, unblocked internet connection, and editing a Word doc and then converting it is a hell of a lot easier than editing a web page.

I will always go for pdfs over web sites, because I copy the pdf and read it on a mobile device, even without a network connection, or read it at work, where a lot of websites are blocked.

I guess it depends upon what you are doing. If you want money then try dms guild (but you won't make much). If you want fame then dms guild won't make that happen unless you constantly release products that are in the top ten.

If you just want to contribute then it doesn't matter where you put it but once it goes on dms guild it is not allowed to be released elsewhere.

I'd be happy to help with wordpress if you want to go that route, or I could put it on my wordpress and give you editing rights and you can have your own version of the realms. I'd also be happy to look over what you've done so far, although my knowledge of the zhentarim is limited and I tend to go off canon more than on these days.

Truth be told I know nothing about word press... I'll google it to learn a little. I once made a couple Flash websites for people's businesses but I'm guessing its more like an HTML site... I'm not concerned in the least with making money or getting popular or copyright or any of that stuff.

Its PDF form because its actually a merged Word document printed to PDF.
