I'm trying to find out more info about this watchghost that protects Mirt's mansion and who appeared in Elminster's Daughter and Hand of Fire but the old link for the character profile via the Wizards website is broken - can anyone help please?

I think she was the first watchghost to appear in print. This is one of two adventures (I think) that Ed Greewood has written for Dungeon.

The "Land Under Shadow" is a poetic reference to Shadowdale (really referring to the region when it was ruled by the drow, see Cormanthyr).

Ieiridauna Amalree is a watchghost, also created by Ed Greenwood, who guards the mansion of Mirt the Moneylender. She appears in Elminster's Daughter, Hand of Fire, and here: http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=books/fr/ieiridaunacp. Their descriptions are quite reminiscent of one another.

Wow.... I never put that Shadowdale... Land under Shadow... drow ruled there previously linkage for the naming of the dale together ever before.

I once asked Ed, in an email, about the appearance of watchghosts...

quote:
Heh. There's an out-of-game explanation for the watchghost's bare-bones appearance. The first one I ever introduced into play was a GenCon gaming session where I was DMing a table of TSR employees. The watchghost was a grim-looking, beautiful woman clad in a shoulders-to-ankles greatcloak. When the PCs rushed her, she pulled open the cloak (to sarcastic comments of "Porn time!" from the female employees) - - and astonished all the players because instead of nudity, they got REAL nudity. I even scared three of them visibly.
Afterwards, they all insisted the watchghost be published - - AND insisted that description be put into print.
Bwoohahaha, and so forth. :}

I followed up by asking if it was planned, or spur of the moment.

quote:
It was planned. The watchghost was the flirtatious guardian of an exclusive city club that was a brothel, though it "dressed itself up" as a secret society/cult. (BTW, the flirtation was her way of getting close to intruders before any spells were hurled at her, priests brandished their holy symbols, etc.).

I think you would be better off asking Ed in his scroll. Wizbro is notorious for misplacing links and losing links. Or someone will come along and provide a copy that they saved somewhere. Tis the beauty of This Hallowed Keep...
