From the last paragraph it sounds like God King Gilgeam has made some sort of alliance with Grazzt the Dark Prince.
I looked up maurezhi and they sound like nasty demonic love child of a Doppelganger and a Ghoul.
This is going to be an interesting book. |

I just reread the last part of the last Dragon+, and now that I've read the SCAG, it has new meaning. When I first read that Mehen is summoned in the wake of the war I had assumed it meant the Netherese War, but it seems clear it meant the Unther Tymanther war.
It also says it ties into the rage of demons campaign and to show more of what happened during the Sundering outside the Sword Coast.
So now I'm even more excited about this book, it'll make a great christmas gift to myself.
I wonder which demon Prince lurks beneath the Old Empires.

Stuff came back from Abier, like Lantan, Unther, Halruaa, but not much went back TO Abier, basically just Return Abier Contient, maybe, if we go by the SCAG, but the important stuff is back, so I don't mind if Tymanther sticks around. I actually like the whole eat your cake and have it too situation. |

Not all of Abier went back to Abier, Tymanther is still around, but reduced in size, primarily from war with a returned Unther, not stuff shifting back to Abier. The Untherites really hate the Dragonborn, it appears Unther suffered greatly in Abier, likely at the hands of Dragonborn.
But perhaps as a mercy to 4e fans and Erin M. Evans they partly spared Tymanther and Airspur the capital of Akanul. |

They basically said that the matriarchy is iconic and isn't going anywhere, so there's room for Baenre to fall. If they wanted to have ''realistic'' development, you'd think that in 10000 years a lot of drow would have ditched Lolth, for obvious reasons, especially when alternatives are available. |

I expect more red shirt dwarves to bite it, we'll be sad for a minute, Drizzt will forget about Menzo, then we're heading in the next trilogy where Bruenor tries to become king for the hundred time.
I love the drow, but I'm sick of reading about Menzo at this point. The War of the Spider Queen was the perfect time for it to fall: Lolth goes silent, Gromph is taken out of the fight, and tanurruks, duergar, and the Jaezred Chaulssin (who are awesome btw) all attack at once. That's not enough to topple it.

Well, now we have a Menzo that is wrecked from Demogorgon rampaging through it. There are other demon lord wreaking havoc throughout the Underdark, and they may work their way through Menzo too. (We also know from other spoilers that Orcus has an undead illithid hive under his control, and plans to do who knows what with it.) On top of that, Quenthel has overreached badly and has the whole city furious at her. Drizzt and Co. are on their way back to Menzo (and Catti Brie is now uber powerful). Plus, Gromph and all of Bregan Daerthe have declared war on the matron mothers.
If Menzo isn't ready to fall, or at least change the power structure, at this point, then I don't want to read about it anymore. There is not going to be a bigger perfect storm than this to overthrow the ruling order, so any subsequent "threats" to the status quo would be meaningless. Only Lolth is crazy enough to have an unchanging city of chaos (and I'm sure she is cackling insidiously at the irony).

I am indeed looking forward to that. Since Tymanther is going bye bye anyway, I'd like to finally get a good look at it. Maybe they will be there during the Sundering, so we can see Tymanther, but also get to see Returned Mulhorand. |

I find it ridiculous that the matriarchy can supposedly never be overthrown, nor can the ruling dynasty, in a city that we're repeatedly reminded is the very essence of chaos. I'm looking forward to this novel a) because its Erin M.Evans, b) because her Characters are going to the region that used to be the old empires, turned returned abier, and I'm hoping she'll cover how the Sundering effects that region. We know there is a side bar on Mulhorand's Gods in the Sword Coast Adventurer's Guide so that's a sign Mulhorand may have returned. |

I love this series, but I have a feeling I'll be disappointed by the outcome in the Nine Hells. WOTC has this obsession with Asmodeus ruling the Hells unchallenged, so they refuse to write in any intrigue. Even when other writers do, they just overrule it (like when Paul Kemp allowed Mephistopheles some successful scheming, WOTC just went and made Asmodeus a Greater God to assure that none of the other archdevils can ever win). |
