Hi! I recently have been doing lots of research on Shield dwarves (especially Old Delzoun´s), but there is one thing I have struggled with: which are canon mounts apart from (the somewhat boring) ponies?
Are dire boars, giant goats or giant lizards (I think I read that somewhere) ever mentioned?
Thank you!

The secret to flying is to fall and not hit the ground.

Reminds me of that scene in one of the Austin Powers movies where he tries to make a getaway in a steamroller, and then he has a stand-off with an evil guard that takes forever to reach its conclusion.

...Nor get anywhere fast. And maybe it's just me, but I'd prefer a mount that wouldn't be taken out by a salt shaker.

When I first saw that the user name Farrel had replied in this scroll, I misread that as Farret, which reminded me of a ferret, and in the PC game Torchlight the PCs can have a giant ferret for a pet. Then I imagined a dwarf riding a giant ferret or weasel!

I wouldn't exactly call that flying. More falling, with style…

Great question and I love all the suggestions, especially Shimmergloom.

I had this dilemma about a year ago and chose Giant Goats/Rams for a Dwarven clan based in the Galena Mountains.

Not too sure if you're into nature documentaries but those buggers can climb!

Under the mountains they really weren't mounted but did make use of ponies and pack lizards.

Hehe, I will add shadow dragons for "very quick descents through chasms" :D

Dire Wolves *.*

Great! Thank you all for the useful feedback!

I've even heard tale of a certain dwarven king riding a certain flaming shadow dragon, once . . .

Mithril Hall's dwarves ride giant boars in at least one of the RAS books.

The 2e accessory Complete Book of Dwarves offers the Rapid Response Rider kit for dwarven cavalry and specifically mentions bears, boars, dire wolves, griffons, hippogriffs, and pegasi as potential mounts.

The peacehammer forces in the Riftedge Towers of the gold dwarven Great Rift ride hippogriffs.

In the Riding Lizard write-up, its says they take the place of horses in the subterranean world. We can assume dwarves use them, but it isn't explicitly stated.

There are bat riding dwarves in one of the remnants of Oghrann i think (the Far Hills springs to mind), but i have been known to make stuff up.
