Well, I finally got around to reading it and I have to say, I'm pleasantly surprised.

The orcs certainly aren't portrayed as good by any means- which I'm glad for. They're still a brutal, flawed people prone to violence. but neither are the demonized as nothing but savage monsters who need to be wiped out for the good of their neighbors, and the flaws of those neighbors and their role in continued hostilities are acknowledged, so in that regard, it was a rather fair minded article.

One thing that did annoy me is that it continues to portray orcs as being generally inferior to other races, but, eh, baby steps.

While it is largely incompatible with how I've estabished Many-Arrows in my game- see here: http://forum.candlekeep.com/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=17070&SearchTerms=Many-Arrows - it's not nearly so irreconcilable as I feared it would be. Still, aside from a few names, I don't think I'll be using much from it.

The article leaves me cautiously optimistic for Many-Arrows continued future.

I think the title of this thread would make for an interesting title to a short story.

From the table of contents of Dragon 429:

By R. A. Salvatore and Bryan Salvatore
Dark Arrow Keep is a forbidding sight for those whose travels bring them to the land of the Many-Arrows tribe.

WINNING RACES: HALF-ORCS OF THE MANY-ARROWS TRIBE
By Shawn Merwin
No group benefited more from the peace between orcs and dwarves than the half-orcs from the Kingdom of Many-Arrows.

ALSIMUR DROON
By Ed Greenwood
One of the most daring traders in Faerūn is the smiling half-orc Alsimur Droon.
