What are some of your favorite spells for buffing up your fighters against more powerful foes?

-The character I have in my current on-hiatus campaign is a Duskblade. I can cast Vampiric Touch through my Elven lightblade, so I have the total cumulative damage of both attacks I do added to my HP. If I'm Hasted, I get a third at full BAB, for even more damage/healing.

Vampiric touch coupled with Monk, and a few levels of Swashbuckler/Duelist.

Untouchable and unstoppable, and you can be practically nakit.

(as long as you have really good stats in the three you'd need to pull that off)

Potions of super heroism are good in a pinch....

-Not really a buffing spell, but a melee spellcasting classes using Vampiric Touch is a very useful combo.

In my current campaign, Haste is one of our favourite buffs, cast by either our bard or our wizard. Inspire Courage is also one of our beloved spells, as are Conviction and Shield of Faith - with two clerics in the party we have lots of divine spells to go around.

IAlthough, it's quite true a fighter buffed with spells like globe of invulnerability, shield, and ironward would be quite potent. Alas, the standard versions of these spells are caster-only.

Back when I played D&D, the solution for that was a Ring of Spellstoring.

That would work. There's a couple other spell-storage methods that would work, too.

This reminds me of the Runelords books by David Farland. The characters take "endowments" of abilities from other people, turning them into super-freaks. Endowments of speed make you super fast, but make you age super fast as well. Fun books!

Righteous Wrath of the Faithful and Stoneskin are two often demanded buffs by the party's melees (with those mentionned above).

I'm also tempted to suggest any cure spell, but they are not buffs per se.

I like the classics - strength (more damage), haste (more attacks), stoneskin (more raarrrwwwgg).

Although, it's quite true a fighter buffed with spells like globe of invulnerability, shield, and ironward would be quite potent. Alas, the standard versions of these spells are caster-only.

[Edit]

Of course, multi- and dual-classed fighter/mages or fighter/clerics were rather versatile and fearsome ... back in the pre-3E days when such characters were comparatively rare.

Then I'd say Haste is my favorite buff for a fighter. It's a very effective spell.

Isn't Anti Magic Shell only a personal spell for a very high level wizard, or did they come up with a targetable version? (I obviously haven't played in a very long time)

No, just some benefits to melee combat, speed, and AC/Reflex. Haste was a pretty potent spell for pretty much the whole party (being an area affect), not just the Fighter.

My personal favorites:
Brilliant Aura (Cleric 8, SpC)- Who doesn't want their weapons to be Brilliant Energy weapons? I'll be Power Attacking for the whole sha'bang please!

Rhino's Rush (Paladin 1/Ranger 1, SpC) - Now this is what I'm talking about, double damage on a Charge attack. Couple that with the Paladin's Charing Smite (x3 for Smite attack that stacks with Rhino's Rush) and your pushing the damage threshold into the 200's by 12th level.

Snake's Swiftness, Mass (Wiz/Sor 3, SpC) - Wow, all allies in area immediately make a melee attack makes for good combos (Rogues, your welcome too).

Enlarge Person (Wiz/Sor 1, PHB) - Some extra damage at low levels, great reach for polearm/spiked chain users, and sets up the Chain-Tripping fighter build nicely.

No it doesn't. They dropped that in 3e.

As for buffs, antimagic sphere, or shell, or whatever, is definitely an interesting one. It's usually the worst idea in the world, but against some foes, like beholders, it's the best buff in the world.

I'll agree with LK, and add bull's strength. (I'm talking 3.5/PF here.) Those two spells together work wonders... especially when combined with enlarge person.

POSSIBLE RANDOM DRIZZT SPOILER

True I recall reading one of the Drizzt novels where he all but admitted he would not be able to handle a muchless skilled Ogre foe who he suspected had been hasted, blessed, and strength augmented. I cant remember how he defeated the Ogre but I think he would have been dead if he wasn't able to counter the Ogres speed with his own magical bracers.
