I need some help compiling a list of all the organizations in the Realms. So far I have the following. Please add or correct as needed.

Harpers, Heralds, Emerald Enclave, Witches of Rashemen, Lords Alliance, Covenant, Moonstars, War Wizards, Purple Dragons, Triadic Knighthood, Lords of Waterdeep, Zhentarim, Red Wizards of Thay, Shadow Thieves, Cult of the Dragon, Twisted Rune, Knights of the Shield, Shadovar, Malaugrym, The Shade, Fire Knives, Arcane Brotherhood, Eldreth Veluuthra, Fey'ri, Bregan D'aerthe, Xanathar Thieves Guild, Sea Ravens, Kraken Society, Monks of the Long Death, Monks of the Dark Moon, Hathran, Knights of Myth Drannor.

Can somebody name some Elven groups, Dwarven groups, and any other organizations that exist in the FR Campaign Setting?

Also, :)

The Ranger's Three.

And I saw that you had the Hathren's but you didn't mention their evil counterparts or the male organization that makes the magical items.
Wandering_mage Posted - 26 Sep 2006 : 12:38:37
How could I forget the Red Sashes!? Consider the Hammerhand clan added for Mercenary groups. :)

What a silly name!

Oh yes, The Red Sashes! One of the best, IMO. Great thinking, Kuje!
Kuje Posted - 26 Sep 2006 : 08:07:43
Also, Durnan's Red Sashes, which also operate in Waterdeep.

My bad. I must have missed that. Sorry.

Champions of Valor has multiple groups within, mostly knightly and monk orders. I also remember the Silver Talons ? that are headed by a dragon, the steelclaws ? that uncivilized order that keep a watch on evil in uncivilized areas and include Wemics and Centaurs, and from the Dragons of Faerun there was a group of half-dragons and such in Essembria. (I am away from my books but only have access to one file from my campaign.)

Another I don't see are the Red Ravens, the mercenary group, based in Arabel.

Also, would you include the Silver Ravens from Sembia?

Old Empires mentions a few, I remember a merc group actively working with the Pharoah that I think he was a wee bit smitten with the leader.

Just from my listing of power groups in my Cormyr campaign I have (that I don't see already listed): Guardians of the Weave, Knights of the Weave, Knightswood Nine Druidic Circle, Alliance of Freesailors, Knights of the Eternal Order, Knights of the Mystic Flame, Order of the Aster, Order of the Red Falcon, Swords of the Lady, Zealots of the Written Word, Vigilant Eyes of the God, Knights of the Merciful Sword, Order of the Golden Lion, Sisters and Brothers of the Ruby Rose, Cultists of the Shattered Peaks, Magelords, and Sunmasters. You already have the baddies listed, not that these can't also be naughty sometimes.

If we can place the red highlighted groups and add a few more popular groups, that would be the start of a list that could grow with time. :)
Kuje Posted - 25 Sep 2006 : 17:47:41
All the groups from C&D and Lords of Darkness have been named already. :) I double checked them with Wander's list yesterday, which is why I added the ones he forgot.

However, there's many other groups that are mentioned in many sources besides C&D, the deity trilogy, Lords of Darkness, or the 1e/2e campaign box sets.

I thought of the Flaming Fist too...

basically every group named in Gold and Glory would have to be named...and then Cloak and Dagger..then the three 2E "gods books" for religious organizations...afterwords go to every product that has a "friends/foe" section...The old 1E "Gray Box" listed a few adventuring groups...I remember some in the 2E box set Ruins of Myth Drannor too..

that should cover most of the groups

those names in red, I don't recognize or don't remember easily, I would have to look them up

Here is how I would organize and list the groups you have listed so far....also notice that some groups can fill multiple positions....the colored names at the end are the ones I can’t remember off hand...

For some groups, like political, military or mercantile the morality of good/neutral/evil shouldn’t be applied IMO...when a group is “moral” it is making an effort to be moral (i.e. a neutral group does not usually accept strongly good or evil beings)...

also not that racial groups are usually inclusive to one race (like the Malaugrym) and aren’t really an “organization”...if so then “the orcs” and “the elves”would be listed as racial organizations

wandering mage, you can label the ba'etith as mage guild.
you can label iron throne as merchant or mercenary depending on how you feel
you forgot to include mages-regal i was talking about before. they are a mage organization.

actually thats what i was referring to when i said "red something or other in sunset vale"
but since thats essentially unintelligible he gets the pts.

and you can categorize them as a military organization... but they mostly just function as an anti darkhold group.
Mace Hammerhand Posted - 25 Sep 2006 : 14:39:51
Flames of the Dark Sun
House Dlardregeth, the daemonfey/fey'ri aren't an organization, House Dlardregeth is
Night Parade
The Unseen

As for Hathran...I am not sure that they could be counted as a group since Rashemen is rather unorganized and the Hathran witches gather in covens and are not directly linked.

House Jordain of Halruaa is an organization in a way.

I'll look into merc groups later on.

Malaugrym, in case they haven't been mentioned.

I'd prolly just repeat others and I'm not going to make a checklist now, so I won't dig through Cloak and Dagger now

Riders of Nesmè
Jaezred Chaulssin
Knights of Silverymoon
The Seven Sisters

Thats about all I have so far.
Ergdusch Posted - 25 Sep 2006 : 09:59:52
Red Cloak Riders - as far as I know that's the organized militia of Asbrawn, a town located north of Iriabor in the Western Heartlands, close to the Sunset Mountains.

(Don't have my books at hand so please excuse possible minor errors in the location)
The Sage Posted - 25 Sep 2006 : 09:23:52
As did I. And it's what I still use...

Eric also provided us with WotC reasoning behind the name change --

"WoTC decided that Force Grey felt inappropriate as a group name in the Realms and that Gray Hands was a more appropriate.

My bias is always towards consistency (to a fault), but if I was starting from scratch I would have definitely picked "Gray Hands."

--Eric"
Kuje Posted - 25 Sep 2006 : 08:10:26
Oh yeah,

Force Grey/Grey Hands of Waterdeep, depending on which source you want to use since they have been renamed in current material. :) Me, I prefer the old name.
The Sage Posted - 25 Sep 2006 : 07:24:42
A few more I've just re-read thanks to some research for something FR-related --

Heralds of Imphras II

Spyspong

Brotherhood of the Cloaks (Cloaks of Mulmaster)
